Six Flags Darien Lake announces an array of attractions

Posted | Contributed by beastnum1

Joining Shipwreck Falls, a shoot the chutes ride announced via season pass renewal, will be two up-charge attractions. Slingshot, the ride assembled during the season, will be dismantled and replaced by an even taller and faster one. Launching riders 300 feet into the air at 80 mph, this will make Slingshot the tallest attraction in the park. On the new Turbobungy!, four people can jump on their own trampoline and do 20-foot flips at the same time. Shipwreck Falls will be located at the original site of Cascade Canyon, right by the main entrance, with Slingshot directly to the right of the entrance, in the exact same spot the prototype Slingshot was located late last season. New shows and a few food stands will also be added to the park.

Visit Six Flags for more information.

What's the chance of them getting a dark ride?

Well hey I don't care how much I don't like paying Extra for attractions this may be the parks way of raising money for some huge ride next season(or at least I'm hoping that). And yes I probably will ride the new slingshot becuase it does sounds awsome!

Where has the magic gone in the name Disney?

Having ridden the Slingshot at Old Town, this upcharge is actually a new reason for me to go to Darien Lake :)  (Assuming the upcharge isn't *TOO* much of a gouging)

GregLeg, If I remember correctly it was about 10 bucks for one person for the prototype version, and it was a great ride. The new one will probably be 15-20 per person, which I will definitely do, seems like a rush to me.

Just what we need! another up charge ride as if 50 bucks wasent enough to get into the park, if you don't have a season pass

ALL CLEAR, I can't wait to hear those words again

Well, at least Six Flags is adding rides to parks, I thought after 9-11 that there would be a pretty big slow down for parks but it seems to be moving quite well considering our economy.
I am happy with this expansion, its better than nothing. That turbobungee thing looks like it will be alot of fun! Any one know how much those things cost to ride? I am not sure about the slingshot, I went last fall and it didn't look to stable, and I can only imagine what this thing will be like. I wish they got a drop tower instead but oh well

SFDL NEEDS A GOOD EXPANSION!!!!!!!
Zar, they already had a dark ride, but it was removed in 1999 and headed to the Great Escape.

The prototype slingshot was 20$ a person...

MFRULES23: I think the Turbobungee will be around the same price as it is at Worlds of Adventure (located across the Scrambler)... it was like $8.00 there for I think 5 or so minutes. But if you count Darien Lake as someone who seems to jack prices up in up-charge attractions, expect to pay around $10 per session.

And the Slingshot was $20.00 per person to ride... and I am predicting it will be the same, but we can always hope that it will be a little less just because they gouge you with the souvineer video and other prices.

I'd like to see if there are other "improvements" with the park as well such as asthetics or general repairs (ie: retracking Predator, replacing lightbulbs that don't work, repaving paths, fixing up queues, repainting over grafitti or just parts that need it... etc)

If that goes over well, I might be there more than a few times... otherwise, my season pass may be best used at other closeish Six Flags locations!

There was a "turbo bungy" thing at a air show I went to.  It was portable but it matches the exact description of this one being added.  It didn't look too fun and they allowed you on for a very short time.

Dang...that slingshot looks AWESOME!  300 feet is HUGE.  I would love to ride one.

Sounds like an awesome year for SFDL.

KBF Net - Coming Soon!

They had TurboBungy's in San Fransisco right on he harbors when I went a few yrsback. i live in buffalo, so ill definitely be there and on that slingshot the first day it opens! i would expect it to be 15-20 bucks, same as the SkyCoaster there. Shipwreck Falls will be cool too, but i wanted a bigger and better one then rumored now. Only hope for the best.

SFDL_Dude,

I think you may mean the Nightmare at Crack-Axl Canyon ride currently at The Great Escape.  I rode that last summer with a friend of mine.  The ride had a very long wait, nearly two hours, and was okay and all, but it needed better theming on the inside than just darkness, like Kennywood's Exterminator has or something.  I was just curious if Darien Lake, which is closer to me than The Great Escape was going to get any dark rides.  Other than coasters, dark rides are my next favorite rides, and not enough parks have them.

SFDL will probably never get a dark ride unless they get rid of that horrible batman show, which was just stupid to replace a coaster with.  Nightmare had long waits but it was a pretty decent ride, I wouldn't mind having it back at SFDL, might cut the lines a bit for SROS.

It's not THAT hard to make a dark ride, Beastnum1... they can just throw a big tent or something over the ride and call it a dark ride (similar to the Scrambler ride at The Great Escape)...

You don't need a huge get-up to make it dark... but then again, you all are probably referring to some kind of non-flat ride... of which then I will agree we'll never get one unless SFDL decides to do some major land expansion.

...It's here, it's here, it's here!!! Whooptie-freakin' doo!!
Ok, what's new for 2003?? I can't wait!!...

That figures, what else would you expect from SF.  Throw a new ride to attract a few new customers.  Charge $7 to park, 30 for addmission, then sock them with 2 up charge attractions.  For SFDL thats 2 sling shot type rides, plus the sky coaster that require a up charge.  Not including the go-karts.  For a small park like DL, thats a lot of upcharge attractions.  Another reason again this year I won't be going to DL, even if it is 20 minutes away.  Come on SF lets get some real rides, not one that most parks installed 10 years ago.
Disneyfan, You're right. I thought they had a lot of up charge attractions before, and now they have 2 more. Go carts, rock climbing, skycoaster, turbobungy, slingshot, paddle boats...am I missing any? Add to this the other ways the park manages to get people to spend money, like the PAC, hotel, campground....I'm not complaining, but you know the park is money hungry when the number of up-charge attractions is almost more than the number of flat rides the park has.
I liked the Tornado dark ride at the Great Escape.  The theming at that park was great where Tornado and Nightmare were.  I want to try out the dark ride and indoor coaster at La Ronde, and I'm really hoping that SFWOA makes the dark ride mentioned in the news brief shortly after the park was created.  I've never been to Darien Lake, but it isn't too far away and I'm interested in trying the park out since it'd be new to me.
