Six Flags claims to be "Coaster Capital of the World"

Am I the only one on CoasterBuzz that like Six Flags and wants them to suceed.

Believe it or not, I also don't want Six Flags to fail. What I don't want to succeed is the idea that a park can make money simply by charging guests out the wazoo for everything from parking to poor quality food.

What I don't want to succeed is the idea that the price you pay at the gate is just that-- it gets you inside the gate. But if you want to actually ride something, you have to pay extra.

If Six Flags decides to truly follow through with its promises to provide a more family and customer friendly, clean, well-maintained, efficient and safer park experience, I'm all for it.

I say, to H*ll with $15 parking, NFL food and drink prices, and Dan Snyder. Anyway, the closest magapark to me is Cedar Point and if I want a park with a lot of big coasters, that's where I will be going.

Well said, RGB! If Cedar Fair and Cedar Point have been successful with not charging as much for food, lowering gate prices, and not having Fast Lane/Flash Pass (most of the time), then Six Flags should be able to, as well.

I'm for Six Flags succeeding, as well. But as long as they keep up this type of behavoir, as well as lousy operations, I don't want them to succeeed. But if they truly turn around their product and offer the guests what they should, then I hope they succeed.

coastin' since 1985

I agree, very well said RGB

It's either that or "Six Flags - debt capital of the amusement park industry!"

Actually, with Cedar Fair's acquisition of Paramount, there debt load is near that of SF. The only difference is, Cedar Fair probably has a realistic plan to pay for it.

"Heavily medicated for your safety!"

I'm sorry if my original post came out 100% "anti-Six Flags," I did not mean for it to be that way! I just wanted to see what you all thought about the commercial. I just loved the irony of SF opting to move towards a "family-friendly" oriented park yet I see an advertizement based on their coasters. I also found it odd to be airing coasters and not Halloween-event commercials this late in the season.

I want SF to succeed, just as I want all parks from Disneyland to Knoebels to succeed as well... But in the same circumstances RGB listed. Anyone who wants ANY amusement park to fail should not be allowed on these boards!

Without multiple parks succeeding, there's no competition. If there's no competition, one chain will become a monopoly. If there's a monopoly, the amusement park industry will most likely hit a plateau and not see the growth and expansion that we have today.

I say that besides Great America, I am in the Northern California and I believe if Six Flags were to be gone, nobody would think "let's go to a Cedar Fair park". Six Flags is actually here when we want it and has more presence here than Cedar Fair ever did. If Cedar Fair were to run the same parks here, my attitude would be different, but to me it seems like Six Flags is a better established brand in California than Cedar Fair is (for better or worse). Hopefully Cedar Fair running Great America will cause "beneficial competition" so better rides can come to Northern California. I am biased.

Is it the offseason already?

Nope, not until after December 30th in Missouri -- what about you? :)

On the West Coast parks are open year round so SFMM and SFMW don't have an off season or an opening day.

I want to see a Six Flags commercial where a bus pulls up, Tom Cruise gets out, and starts jumping up and down on a sofa in time to the Vengaboys.

Yes, they can call themselves the coaster capital because they have the most coasters of any park operator.

Yes, if you add up all the coasters spread around the country. But isn't a "capital" ONE place? You can't really say that Six Flags is the coaster capital any more than calling Cleveland/Cincinnati/Columbus the capital of Ohio.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks, than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

Semantics..

I say don't think so hard about it. It was a marketing move to promote the best rides at some of their top parks.

Fate is the path of least resistance.

With the acquisition of Paramount isn't Cedar Fair the coaster capital of the world? Or is it still Six Flags...I never really took the time to count...
