Six Flags Buys Sea World

I think that this move is just crossing the lines of Six flags spendid frenzy.

This is just freaking stupid!!!

"Not to mention that SWO is the only Sea World in a rather brutal winter climate, maybe the animal care regulations became too much for them. (Witness the removal of the Dolphin shows at PKI and CP, as well as the Wild Animal Habitat at PKI), and they are unloading this cost nightmare on SFO"

By saying this how come all the zoo's in Ohio don't fail? Yes it is a cost problem, but they don't have many potentially "deadly" animals at the park. (If I do recall there were some at PKI.)
If there were some dangerous land animals (please don't count alligators and crocs) then I could see an insurance nightmare, but there is just simply not any. *** This post was edited by Sinker515 on 1/10/2001. ***

Ohio zoos aren't for profit, and partially supported by the park district they fall in (at least, that's the case for the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo).

However, when the gates close at the end of the season, the whale still needs to eat. The sad thing is that all of the "good" marine animals will be gone, including the whales. That's a real shame for natives like myself, and it really bothers me that I'll never be able to take my kids there.

Jeff, I'm a little lost with what you just said there. Maybe I'm not familiar with the Cleveland Zoo you refer to. When you said that all the good marine animals will be gone and it's a shame you won't be able to take your kids there, are you talking about Sea World?

I'm interested in what's going to happen to Sea World in the future and a little lost with what you said. (BTW, are the large animals like whales and dolphins taken elsewhere during the winter, or do they have facilities to keep them there?)

Yes... I was talking about Sea World. Sorry. :)

The animals do not leave Cleveland. I vaguely recall the last time one of the whales was transported. The magazine I work with actually did a story on it. It was quite a few years ago now, and it was the female if I remember correctly. Quite a big deal, as you would expect anytime you have to move anything that big, especially when it needs to live in water!

The Cleveland Zoo is open year-round. It really is a nice zoo, thanks in part to the good corporate citizens of the Greater Cleveland area.

Does anyone know if they will be adding on a resort there like at SFDL.

Army rangers lead the way
If I ever visit "Sea World Ohio" again, I have a feeling that I am going to somehow get hurt, by a fish tank, a raft Ride, a cell phone, or "Superman, the Killer Whale"

Funny that I once had a season pass to the Cleveland Zoo, but not SFO.

Superman, the Killer Whale? I can't stop laughing.... it's just so befitting to a Six Flags idea.
