Silver Star makes 10:00 news in Columbus

You know local news is slow when your local FOX news station covers the opening of a coaster halfway across the earth. But they did last night (Saturday).

They showed the ride running briefly, with either B or M in the front seat (but didn't mention the manufacturer). They said it was the tallest and fastest ride in Europe... is that right?

I bet you Europa Park paid them to show it through out the whole U.S.

You'll look back at this day and laugh.

Dennis,

Man, I missed that. As far as the stats, I honestly don't know other than it is the tallest coaster B&M have done so my guess is it is indeed the tallest in Europe.

Initial reports of the coaster have been mixed from what I was told. Some say it offers a 'Nitro type' experience with not a lot of air and kind of tame (which I found Nitro to be quite the other way around), while others say it offers a lot of speed and air.

I haven't been following much as far as construction goes as I want to be pretty surprised when I see it for the first time in July.

Until Jubilee Odyssey opens Silver Star is the tallest coaster in Europe.

As for B&M coaters the only one taller is Titan
Silver Star: 240'
Titan: 245'

Silver Star is the tallest B&m but Nitro is the 2nd tallest B&M but Nitro is the fastest by like 2 mph from Silver Star, Nitro has the biggest drop by 2 feet, and is the longest B&M coaster. So if you wanna ride Silver Star but can't get out to Europe just go to Nitro you shouldn't be missing much.

Saying that you won't be missing much because they're statistically similar is a little off-base. Rides can have very similar statistics and be completely different rides, take for example the SROS triplets or SROS as compared to Magnum or any number of other rides.

I'm sure Silver Star will end up being like the other B&M Speedcoasters, unique in it's own right and worthy of a few circuits :-)

Reports from those who attended opening day at Europa Park:

Its fun and got great capacity, but, lacks intensity and has a little too many brakes! Mostly everyone agree that even if Expedition Ge Force is smaller and shorter, its a better ride.

This comes from french coaster enthusiasts who went on it.

The local Kansas City news had a segment on Silver Star too. Kind of weird if you ask me.

Even if it looks like another coaster, I think it will have enough to offer to make it different. Heck, I still think some of the Batman clones offer different ride experiences even though though they are very similar.

If I am not mistaken, Jubille Odyssey has fallen to the world of 'marketing over stat syndrome'. Given that I have never seen the ride in person, I find it confusing that a ride that doesn't quite stand 200-feet tall (from what I have been told), can go an advertized 100 mph.

If anyone knows the correct stats, please feel free to correct me if I screwed them up.

I see what your sayin, your right.

Well, I guess I don't find it any surprise that Expedition Ge-Force is still holding onto it's title as the King of European Steel for the time being but Silver Star certainly looks like it has some potential.

Honestly looking at it I was kind of surprised how nice it *did* end up looking, I'm normally not that big of a steelie fan at all but Silver Star actually looks like it'll be a pretty fun ride even if it is a B&M Speedcoaster :-)

It still remains to be seen what the reviews will be like on Goliath though, looking at the layout it sure seems like it has the potential to give SROS @ SFNE and ExGeForce a run for their collective money :-)

SisTa can never compete with Exp G force, since Sista is providing speed and air, but no nice elements.

All eyes in Europa start focussing on Goliath, although not als tall as SiSta, the speed is almost the same (130 sista 110 Goliath / kmh) and features a lot of nice elements, like a vertical loop, corksrew hill and the W-hill (the official intamin name for the overbanked one)

S:ROS triplets? I've been on 2 of the 3, and I'm going on the 3rd this year. They aren't clones! SFDL's and SFA's are mirror images, but SFNE's is nothing like the other two.

I never said they were clones, I just said there were three of them. Triplets indicate that they're related, not that they're identical :-)
