should ptc trains have seat belts?

or any other trains?
I think it depends on where they are going, for instance: at all of the Paramount parks I've been to there are no seatbelts on the PTC's, but Six Flags and Cedar Fair both have them on all the PTC trains. This is just what I have noticed. Personally I prefer riding without them because they just get in the way and it takes more time to load and unload, and if you get stapled, oooh that hurts! I don't think it makes a difference safety wise.

I honestly do not think they are needed.

At Hersheypark Wildcat always had seat belts (short ones too).

From 1946 till 2000 the Comet did not. Now, after 60 years it does (they installed them this year).

Oh well, I guess it is up to the parks. Lakemont's Skyliner, with its bench seats, fixed lap bars and "ejector seat" airtime on the first drop does not, but yet Hershey has installed them on Comet.

Sigh... keeping one step ahead of the lawyers I suppose.

Shivering Timbers has PTC trains and seat belts. Should they though? I think not! Although, they are a good safety measure which rarely interfere with my ride experience.

Seat belts are standard equipment on PTC trains. Therefore, according to manufacturer specs, they're supposed to be there.

I talked with an engineer from PTC, and he says that PTC regards the seat belt as the primary means of rider restraint, with the lap bar a secondary in case the rider releases the belt.

This probably explains why with the ratcheting lap bar in the top three (of six) positions, most riders are essentially unsecured by the lap bar.

I think Ghostrider needs its seatbelts. The lapbars don't do very much in the way of safety. I think as long as you keep the seatbelt loose, it doesn't matter to me.
After going to CP I thought seatbelts were a state sanctioned thing, ie. the only rides with belts I'd been on were PTC(GA Cyclone and my fave cars on the Swamp Fox). Interesting about that primary form of restraint, I'll use that line next time I get stapled on a ride with belts:), although, I do like the belts, but I never wear them very tight when they are there. There have been a couple of times I thought the belt may have saved me some pain................
It doesn't matter if a coaster has seatbelts or not. If the lap bar fits snug, just loosen the seatbelt.
(I had this started as another topic, but I deleted that and will post it here)

Above I mentioned Hersheypark's Comet. In my one vist (so far) there this season, I didn't get a chance to ride this coaster (I was not "calling the shots" that day, and then we had to leave around 6pm to go to the hockeygame in the Arena).
Like I said above, I know that this coaster received seat belts this year, but does anyone know if they were retrofitted onto the old trains, or if it is running new trains? If it is running new trains, are they any more roomy than the old ones?

I always considered Comet one of the tightest fits around and I know a few people who can not ride it for that reason.

Comet got new trains a few years ago, so I kind of doubt that they would have gotten new ones again so soon.

So then the belts were retrofits. I hope they didn't take up much space where they attach. (Hmmmm... I could use this to my advantage... could tell my wife that we need to go to Hersheypark this weekend cause I gotta check out those new belts.)

They shouldn't take up any space where they attach. They bolt in under the seat. Which is interesting, as the seats themselves are not bolted in place, as anybody who was at Stark Raven Mad can tell you!

Texas Giant, SFoT, PTC trains, stupid headrests but at least no seat belts. Stupid buckles are always getting twisted and bashing me in the gut against the lapbars on Ghostrider. If people didn't standup and fall out of trains we wouldn't have to suffer seat belts.
i think seatbelts should be instaled on almost any type of majoy coaster.but not the type that have the big buckels where ur stumich is becuase those just hurt! but ones like on Steel force at dorney park wich come from the inside of the car and you pull them across your lap and puckel them on the other side where the buckel is far away from your stumich becuase they just hurt. now for steel looping coaster they should be on the harnest like on inverted coasters.nuthing proply wont happen but just incase.
seatbelts were never used up until 95 or so. i dont know if there was an accident that made parks put belts on the trains or what. maybe cci just decided to do it.
