there is already Xtreme Skylyer, Ripcord, etc. why not an actual bungee jump tower? hire stunt people to explain how to do everything correctly, and train the employess very well. have the choice to jump with the cord on your feet or strapped to your back. and maybe even the choice of height. (maybe a 300ft tower, being able to choose 100, 200, 300). this would be really cool, but probably very high on insurance. ofcourse it would be a pay-per-ride, but it would be worth it.
what are your opinions? should parks have these?

Texas has a park basically devoted to Extreme Rides. Its called: Zero Gravity Thrill Amusement Park.
link: [ http://www.gojump.com/ ] theyve got a 7 story bungee jump tower. ive done this, and it was great. and for $21 dollars you cant go wrong. id love to see SF or CP parks with this type of attraction. And I don thtink the insurance would be all that bad. The one in Texas has a professional stuntman airbag underneath the bungee platform so if something was to go wrong, the rider would be protected very well, with only the chance of a small injury.

Is that park in Texas the one with the free fall ride? The ride where you are in some type of harness to get your body in the correct position and then you just fall into a huge net. That looks insane. But as far as bungy jumping goes, I'm not sure if amusement parks need them. They've got plenty of upcharge attractions that offer similar experiences. But it could be done, all they need is a large crane and an air mattress. I've bungy jumped before, down in New Zealand, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. BUT it was done in a beautiful valley, miles from anywhere and it was over a river. The scenery definately made the jump for me. I wouldn't enjoy screaming toward the pavement as much, but hey that's just me. One positive thing would be safety. I've seen several bungy jump sites that I would never trust and ones located within the larger parks would most definately be kept up well (bungy cords replaced regularly). But the only reason I jumped when I did was because it was with the company that invented bungy jumping, A.J. Hackett. They have a perfect safety record so I figured if I didn't jump with them, I never would.

I would LOVE to see a major park get a bungee jump. The only one I have done is the one in Las Vegas (171-feet). Rumor has it the Royal Gorge in Colorado is planing on adding a (close to) 1,000 foot jump off the side of the Royal Gorge bridge for everyday use!!
Could you imagine?

Raging Waters in San Dimas used to have a bungee jump, but they removed it a few years ago. It was an actual bungee jump, not a sky coaster or anything.
Little ol' Lakemont Park in PA had a upcharge Bungy attraction some years ago, I think around '95 or '96. They had a crane on park property and you would be weighed, harnessed, hooked onto the bungy cord, and then bord a platform that was attached to the cranes line. The platform would then be hoisted into the air and you would jump off.
I can't remember if they had it for one or two seasons. I never had the money to try it and quite frankly, I was too scared to do it. It didn't appear to me to be very safe.
The crane was standard construction equipment and was probibly rented so they didn't have to invest in a perminant tower. It could have been managed by a seprate company.I can;t remember how much was charged but I do remember it being very expensive.
