Should i Join ACE?

I live in SCV(santa clarita valley) and looking at the schedule for next years ace it doesnt seem to be worth my money to join ace, anyone know any reasons to  join.
-----------------
SFMM Season Pass 80$ drink 10$ ripping of six flags by coming back 100 times Priceless......
hmm...lets see...Knotts Winter Coaster Solace, Knotts media day (hopefully), CoasterCon, the Coaster video party, probably more...very worth the $, especially if you paid full price for a SFMM season pass....

And joining ACE shouldn't be about the events, it should be because you love coasters and want to be in a club with people that share the same love of coasters that you do!

Joining ACE shouldnt be about the events? Most people like perks when they drop their hard earned money to a club or organization. ACE isnt a charity asking for donations. They are a club that has to offer things for people to join. Just joining to say you are a part of a coaster club is kind of pointless when today we have the internet to share our love of coasters with others.

Ace is so much more than saying you are in it to people. It's great! I do find it great to "use" it for the events if you want to consider it that because you get to hang out with all your fellow ACEr's, talk about coasters, and ride them together, what could be better! Plus, you meet so many new people. That's the point of a club isn't it?

I have been in ACE for 2 years and I love it. I will always renew my membership! It's better than any Coasterbuzz club. I mean, why have a Coasterbuzz club when you can talk online and meet up at the park with other CBer's for free? Now that's what doesn't make sense.

They also have a pretty good magizine. So the new is old, but they have interesting articles and good pics. You also get to be in those Coaster Shows. You sometimes even get invited to media days were you get to ride a coaster before everybody else.
I'm saying if your joining for the sole purpose of getting some ERT, thats pretty pathetic.  It should be about your love of coasters, meeting people with the same interests, etc.  The Events are just means of getting us enthusiasts together to have a great time!

I get to be in shows on tv!?   I've been a member of ACE since 1986 and I've never been invited to anything like that.  I guess you have to be one of the "cool" member in one of the pop "clicks."  But anyway... it's really cool, you get great magazines and newsletters.  ERT hasn't been much fun for about 10 years, b/c ACE has so many people in it (therfore, more people at the events.)
Plus, you get to get on the Beast (or SOB now) if you go to KI.  Worlds of Fun used to let you in for free as well.  Not sure about that since Cedar Fair owns it now...

Its worth it, but perhaps not to some of the younger kiddies on this board.  The magazines and news letters are utterly fantastic, and the events are well worth it.

As long as I'm not taking food off the table to do so, ACE will continue to get my annual dues as long as I'm alive.  True, the newsletters and mags sometimes provide "outdated" info (old news, so to speak), AND my article on Cheetah got bumped.  The events are just TOO much fun, connecting with all the fellow er, um, enthusiasts, is also excellent, and what price can you put on ERT?  Personally, it's not so much the riding without lines, it's riding WITH the whole train screaming from station to brake run...but the REAL reason I joined ACE in the first place is still my main reason for sticking with it...ROLLER COASTER PRESERVATION!  Dick Knoebels is some sort of superhero in my book....

Intamin Rocks:  the answer to "should I join ACE?" depends on what you expect to get from joining the club. I admit for those who are too young or don't have the funds to travel to ACE events joining the club might be hard to justify.  But I feel its a good club to belong to and since you live in the LA area like I do you have some immediate benefits coming your way, like the 2002 Con in June, Winter Solace in March, and media days for X and the new Knott's coaster, just to name four.

I joined ACE originally in 1992 so I could get ACE News and RollerCoaster Magazine and find out about coaster and parks across the US.  I had no intention of going to any of the events.  Rather I planned my own trips.  Now that I have the internet those publications prove less useful in trip planning but are still great to read.

Then seven year later I discovered coaster news groups and websites and started meeting people who also enjoyed my enthusiasm for coasters.  I went to my first ACE event, the 1999 Fall Conference, and had a TOTAL blast.  In fact I was kicking myself for not having gone to an event sooner.

Along with ACE events and meeting cool people I also began getting invited to Media Days when parks in my area would open new coasters.  I was also asked to attend filming of Discovery Channel specials in my area.  I found that there are parks across the US that extend to me a discount when I flash my ACE card.

With everything thats happening in So Cal next year this would be the perfect time to join the club IMHO.  You can meet fellow enthusiasts and enjoy some ERT.

In one word, *YES*. I was going to go into all my reasons why ACE works for me, but I couldn't explain more perfectly than Mammosh did above. :)

I was toying with the idea of joining but nothing really happens in NC.  Yeah, last year there was a ride thing on the Hurricane, but if they ever do that again, it wouldn't matter because that ride is usually a walk on.  Plus The Pavillion probably wont get any coasters for a long time consider the recent addition of The Hurricane and limited space.  Now Carowinds on the other hand might have a press day for their Wild Mouse, but who really cares?  That ride will probably be easy to get on to if you go at the right time.  Carowinds also said that they aren't planning to add anything big soon since they just got Top Gun so that sort of also takes out the point.  Add into that that I can't drive and am still going to High School and you have a pretty pointless membership save the publications.  So if anyone can point out any plusses for me, that would be great!:)

And to Intaminrocks, I would join because some great coasters should be coming your way this year.

ditto_716:  there is something happening near you in 2003:  the 25th ACE Coaster Convention at PKD and BGW.  Expect BIG things to be happening at that one!
Mamoosh: That is cool, but I probably wont be able to get there for that.  Hopefully, I will go to both PKD and BGW but at that time seems quite unlikely.:(
