The (sic) is used when making a quote from printed word, wherein a word was misspelled. By placing (sic) after the incorrect word, it shows that the spelling error was in the original text, not in your quotation of it.
Example: The newspaper headline read, "Fire injers(sic) four apartment residents".

IIRC from my Latin, "sic" is actually an abbreviation in itself...although I forget exactly what it means, EV is right in that it's something that notes the error was in the original quoted text.
Someday, we'll get around to creating TWO databases of abbreviations...one for coasters, the other for "netspeak"...
Probably the posts he makes devoid of any capitalization or punctuation.
