Shivering Timbers 100: "I Rant Therefore I Rode"

Associated parks:
None

After a week of insane coaster riding in So Cal with Kara (ST Chick), I headed back east to Muskegon to give Kara's "baby" a try for myself.

After hearing an infinite amount of raving reviews of the coaster, and even seeing the coaster for myself in the off season, I had my hopes up... To say the least. Typically I try to avoid that because 9 out of 10 times coasters don't live up to their hype, but just look at the thing, how can you not be excited?? The real torture however was that at the start of the day I was at 95 coasters, and I really wanted Shivering Timbers to be 100, so we took a ride on Zach's Zoomer, Big Dipper, Corkscrew, and Madmouse first...

Finally the time arrived for my vacation in Airtime city... I mean, my ride on Shivering Timbers. First ride we took the front of the back car, blue train. Somehow, Kara has this power over the ops, and they pulled UP on my lapbar with only 2 clicks... It was insane. I really, really couldn't have imagined the ride I had in store... From the time I was sucked over the first drop, to the time we hit the laterals of the final helix, I dont think I touched my seat for more than a second at a time. Honestly, after 99 coasters, I didn't know that coasters could achieve that much airtime. It was a mind boggling ride, but then again, that was only lap 1 of the day.

Eventually we made it to the front seat, and again, I didn't know front seat rides could be so good. This turned out to be my favorite seat on the whole (blue) train (which is the ONLY train to ride). The floater air on literally *every* hill was seemingly endless. I tend to try to not rank coasters, but lately my top coasters have all been steel, not wood... That all just changed, Shivering Timbers is officially my favorite coaster, period. I now understand why Kara chose to ride it 800-some-odd times... As someone once said, "I dont care how you get here, come by plane, train, car, or spaceshuttle, just get here". It's a must ride for ANY coaster enthusiast.

I'd Rather Be Riding Roller Coasters

Hehe, I felt sorry for the kid in early May when we went for an offseason visit. SO glad you loved it, Jon! Oh man, looks like we've got nothing better to do tomorrow than to get 50 laps in...darn! ;) It was fun watching Jon freak out with the airtime. Now he knows what a wooden coaster can do!

Lucky you....I heard some pathetic moron actually planned for a month and a half trying to get a good CCI for coaster #100.

I gotta get CBaby and Da Midget out to MA before summer ends...maybe next month. I also need a second impression of ST, I guess. It's still one of my top woodies, but I'd like to ride Timbers and the WI Raven (Cyclops) on the same trip.

-'Playa

(for whom ST was coaster #50)

The CPlaya 100--6 days, 9 parks, 47 coasters, 2037 miles and a winner.....LoCoSuMo.

I think they need to trash that green train and buy one of HW's PTC's from legend so HW can put the G back on :)

The legend with a G an a PTC, Now how could you miss!
