SFWoA Monorail

A U shaped train layout would be rediculous.

Chitown i think you are looking for this answer. The park doesn't own all of the land surrounding the lake. So there is no possibility for a complete land circuit. It all comes down to a bitty strip of land next to the old bathhouse in the corner of the water park. I would say that that strip of land is no more than 200 yards from lake edge to route 43. Anywy, that land is owned by a housing/community group near to the lake for just about as long as the park has been around. They are unwilling to part with it and their right to access the lake. And the park has tried to gain that land even before it was WOA or Six Flags.

Building a bridge for a rain/monorail over the water also seems to be unlikly. Now i am no engineer, but the most logical reason to me is this: Geauga Lake is a natural spring fed lake therefore the lake bed is rather soft and not firm. Therefore the cost to create a footer at any distance from dry land is pretty steep. Now the weak part in that is that BKF is pretty close to that lake and on swampy land, but then again it wasn't lake bed real estate. I can't imagine that the EPA would have an issue with a structure being built over the lake, the only reason they had any issue with the park at all is that BKF is built on an endangered ecology type Appearantly there aren't to many swampy areas left in this part of the mid west to house a certain species of frog or butterfly. The only thing i definately know of that the EPA has issue with the lake is controling the amount of crap that is dumped into the lake.

But now that i get to the end of my post i thought of one wacky way to get a u shaped trank to work more efficiently. Have the track split in one or more areas where the trains would pass heading in opposite directions. A bit complicated, but if you can't get a hold of that land there really isn't too many options.

The park cannot build completely around the lake because it doesnt own all the land. There is a small privately owned park that is between the two halfs by Rt.43. These people will probably never sell out to the park. I worked with a girl whose father is the president of the home owners assciotiation(sp?) that owns that park They have been offered a deal in the millions for it and still turned it down. It will be a long hard battle for that land

Ahhh, I didnt know that part of it. Oh well.

Why would these people want to hold on to a small piece of land to this lake? To me its more of an overgrown pond then a lake.

Mainly because it's been there along ime and it's a part of Aurora's heritage I guess you can say.

I think they are smart by not letting the park buy their land. I see that piece of property everytime I drive to the "wild rides" parking lot. It's a nice and peaceful area.

One of the main factors I keep thinking about is whether it's worth to keep operating the current monorail. It's nothing but an observation ride, so dismantle it. How about constructing a whole new system back behind Raging Wolf Bobs? Have the track run to the "wildlife" section, then loop around (similar to EPCOT) and come back the same way parallel to other the track.

I don't think the monorail necessarily needs to be full circuit. A "one-way" piece of track would solve the problem for most people. Busch Gardens Williamsburg had a shuttle monorail from the park to the brewery. We got on and went to the brewery and others got on at the brewery to head back to the park.

It worked.

But you can only use one train. -And is congested as WoA is, there should be a steady flow of transportation.

Well, I wouldn't eliminate the Boardwalk or the ferry boats but you may be right. Have you been in the Orlando Airport? They have shuttle trains that run side by side going back and forth between terminals.

There is always a train coming while one is going. You also have the ability to make the trains as long as you need.

If they go the way of a shuttle monorail, they can always build two duel load/unload stations(like X-Flight). That way one train is running on the track, while the other is unloading/loading. They don't need to build this monorail from end to end in the park. Build it from the wild rides gate to the wild life gate would work great.

I still think a full circuit would be nice.

The Geauga Lake homeowners have been nothing but a pain. No offense to anyone that lives there, but it's kinda trashy, as are SOME of the people i have seen/heard about from there. They are very weird about that little pavillion and dock, which i hardly ever see being used. They should take the millions and distribute it to fix up their park in the neighborhood, which is really run-down.

AND I can verify all of my comments, which I agree with, as would any person that has lived in aurora for 1/3 of their life

All I know is that SFWoA is slowly buying up those properties. If one goes up for sale they buy it pretty much the next day. I think they own about 5 or 6, but not enough to really do anything with. I think the plan will be eminate domain(sp?), once they own enough of the properties. This process could take years however.

What ever happened to the hyper coaster that was going to be constructed near the "wildlife" section. Didn't they clear it with zoning? They better build the new monorail instead.....it's a better investment.

"SFWoA" made a statement and "tipped" there hat to CP and said they will change there marketing stategy back around Christmas time. With that said, Yes, they still have the hyper plans but not for 2003. It's looking more like it will open with SFWoA new themed "Land."

As for that little piece of park land, I too, can verify Hurrican Geauga's statements. It's unblievable!

As for more ideas, I'd say put in 150ft steel beams into the ground by the Ballroom, and Pearl Diving building, stretch some cables across the lake, add some track...and...Whala a suspension bridge for a train ;)

Well they can make a single track monorail run two trains by having a short stretch of two track in the middle of the circuit. Both trains must dispatch at the same time and would meet where there is two tracks and then after passing each other they would continue on the single track in each direction. Think like the Orlando airport monorail using two trains on one track. It would be high capacity and cheap to build. Although I doubt we will ever see this happening.

Not that I'm bashing the coasters, but I think Mind Eraser and Serial Thriller should be removed (and to another park). Something other than a coaster should be put in those areas.

I thank they should tear down the monorail and instead build a train ride to the Animal Adventures side.
Coke Cool, if you even read the first post, it said she "wanted" a monorail- they do not have one.
