SFWoA and The city of Aurora OH

It appears as though the city of Aurora and Six Flags Worlds of Adventure made a deal with how much tax money the city will receive from sold tickets. Does this mean that the park can expect the height variance on the wildlife side and huge rollercoasters in the future. What do you think? I think we'll see many new rollercoasters to come. Give your opinion
ooh! maybe the park will be getting their rumored hyper next year. i hope it exceeds 300 ft!!! but i should think in reality!

No, it just means the city will get paid. They still won't allow the hyper if neighbors persist.

I don't know the entire story but from what's been said that sounds like crap. Why should the park dish out their $$ from sold tickets to the city?

The article was in The Cleveland Plain Dealer, the week of April 22nd. It was located in the Metro Section. I want to say the article was in the paper on Friday or Saturday.

It all comes down to that buyout of SeaWorld. One of the townships lost some money. And another said it should all belong to them because it's one park now. If I'm not mistaken (I think it has now to do with, how many tickets come through the Wild Life side now and x amount of taxes for that). Either way it's almost a two thumbs up now from talking to everyone in Aurora and Six Flags (People are VERY friendly there when shopping or eating) on SFWoA coaster plans. Now will SFWoA actually build one next year? That I don't know. I just know they want to, and so does the city. (AKA: SF probably has it in the record/off the record for a ride contract if they agree to the taxes.) By the way, I'm in no means any tax expert :)

OK kinda off topic but I didn't want to start a new one. Does anyone have a Guesstimate of how busy SFWoA will be on Sat???

Nolimitchic, Probley expect medium crowds. Like 1 1/2 hour for XF, 15mins for BKF, 15mins for Villain, 20mins for SUE, ect... Thats my best guess. But who knows, it can be dead! :) TOMMORROW IS DA DAY!

im going there long enough to validate my season pass... then im off to Kennywood.

Another of thier problems is the fact that the two sides of the park reside in different towns legaly..

THAT is gonna cause problems...

Think that's problems? Carowinds resides in 2 different states. The NC/SC border divides the park.

Yeah, the wild rides side is in Aurora Township and the wild life side is in Bainbridge Township. I don't know the exact height restrictions for each town but I'm pretty sure that they are a little different.

-----------------
I can't think of a good signature.

Ok here goes...

Over 80% of Geauga Lake Park was in Bainbridge Township (which in Ohio is unable to levey taxes directly) so Aurora got about 20% tax on the gate admission of GLP because they are a city and can such things. ALL of the undeveloped land for GLP was in Bainbridge Township, so whenever the park expanded, Aurora got nothing but less of a cut.

Sea World Ohio was about fifty-fifty (Aurora City and Bainbridge Township) but because the main gate was in Aurora someone somewhere thought it was a good idea that SWO paid tax on all of its admission revenue. All of the undeveloped land around SWO was the property of GLP and in Bainbridge (if anyone cared).

So when SFI bought SWO the City of Aurora said, "well since SWO paid taxes on all of the gate admissions, then SFWOA should too." Of course that logic is fuzzy because the park could just close that gate and go back to the way it was with GLP.
At any rate, the park as a whole is probably about 30 to 40% in the Aurora city limits. (the county line runs through the wave pool, through turtle beach, across the lake and through the Lakeside restaurant and just on the north side of the wildlife main gate to the lots).

On to hight restrictions. Aurora has no laws pertaining to the height allowed for amusement devices. As part of the sale of the land from Funtime to A/B to open SWO, there was a clause restricting the construction of permenant traditionl amusement devices (thus a loop hole for the simulator); and because so little of GLP was in Aurora there seemed to be no need for ordenances.

Bainbridge does have a staggered height restriction for the park. The highest is along Aurora Rd (St Rt 43) at well over the 180' or so height of SUE; and then steps down to 65' on the other side of the lake where the second half of the Batman ride hugs the lake.

So, the rumor of a coaster being built in the New Orleans Nights area of the park holds some weight because it is in Bainbridge and has a lot of open space in the lot located next to it. The 300' tall coaster was originally planned to be built on the hill behind the two stadiums next to a residential street (of which SFI now ownes several units), those houses have been there for quite some time. That is the place where the problems are for the park, because they first need laws pertaining to amusement device construction and then hope that a 300 foot structure is permitted.
Aurora wanted to annex the land that the park ownes in order to make the arguement mute. Solon wants to annex the park to get in on the action (because as a major throughway to the park they see a lot of traffic but no tax money) and Bainbridge is just pouting because they should have incorporated years ago and put a stop to the reckless sprawl that is happening throughout their peaceful little township and are now completely handcufed because the wealthy residents there have no interest in homerule because then they would have to have an income tax.
Furthermore the park is still reeling from the merger and suffering from less than desired attendance for a so called "super park". The park in the past has always been able to beat down the township in the courts because they were there before the residents, so if the park wanted to build a big ride somewhere there is no reason that can stop them. In the end, one has to wonder what is really going on in that park....

Wow, thank meangene... That was one history lesson I did not know.

What I do know is that when I went to SFWOA to validate my season pass it looked a whole lot better then when it was Geauga lake. The coasters add so much.

Planned Parks for this summer: SFoGa, CP, SFWoA, SFGAm, SFKK, PKI, MA, SFStL, HW, KW. Is 10 enough?
Cornerstone Festival 2002... I will be there

I have to agree with you on that one. As much as i gripe about Premier Parks and their shenanigans, the park has a much nicer and exciting skyline. Plus can you really be mad at the people who brought us the Villian??
