I actually decided to visit the park both days this weekend...yes in mid July. My main goal was to see how they handle BIG crowds compared to last year. Now last year we know NEVER EVER set foot near the park on these type of weekends. This year was a HUGE GIANT differance. They were packed beyond belief! And man was it hot.
SFWoA actually had 2 trains on X-Flight running with a total of 40 min wait.
The big one...BIG DIPPER RUNNING 2 TRAINS!!!!
Yes, many people said it would never be done again, but it did run two trains this past weekend...I was in awe :) It was such a wonderful sight to know there is still hope! And the line was running smoothly. They also had BKF running 3 trains! And moving them fast!
The other biggest shocker to me was the crowds on the WILD LIFE side! Each show I went to (whale, Batman, Tiger, Do It Yourself) was packed! It's been a LONG time since I've seen these big stadiums packed. Two shows even had to put signs out saying sorry stadium is full. In all I saw a lot of smiling faces, sweeps throughout the park.
Kinda strange seeing zebras at the park now (for those who don't know two zebras just arrived and have a new "savanah looking" home.)
Granted anything can always be better but compared to last year...this was AWESOME! They are starting to handle the big crowds now. They even had a life guard on the floating boardwalk...don't jump ;)

I didn't know a savannah looked like a flat plot of land with a chain link fence surrounding it! ;) I have not seen the zebras yet, but the exhibit area itself looks a little depressing. It is nice to have something to look at on the walkway behing Wolf Bobs, though.
A friend of mine had their company picnic on Sunday and said the same thing- the Wild Life side was packed. When I was there last Wednesday, the Killer Whale stadium was easily 85% full, and the Tiger Island show had to be roped off since the stadium was at capacity. Amazing how one killer whale will bring the crowds back.....

Cheap Shot: We know you tried to get photographs of this awe inspring earth shattering, Ice Cream being served down-under day at SFWoA but the rideop stole your camera and smashed it on the ground into itty bitty teeny weeny pieces for having it within 10 miles of Serial Thriller....... But I digresss
It's nice to hear that SFWoA is becoming a major player and sounds like they are playing the game right this year. Running at full capacity will be key in there "Just like Cedar Point" advertising campaign. I've been to SFWoA a few times, and I can't figure out what people have against the place. I don't think I've ever waited more than 15 minutes for a ride there, and you can't ask for much more variety in things to do at a park.
It's much more fun than the Six Flags branded park that is closest to me.......

Wait, how is running two trains on X-Flight "full capacity?"

Yeah I want to know where this 15 minute ride wait time stuff came from? I realize I was there on a Saturday, but people have said even on Saturday's that it's walk-on and we waited at least 30 minutes for most rides - 2 hours for X-Flight including down time, but at the rate the line was moving, it was going to take that long anyway, so it was a washout as far as time goes.
And X-Flight ran 3 trains I thought the first year I was there, so I also do not understand how 2 trains is full capacity - also the back row of one of the trains was not functional, so again, not full

Quick question does batwing and stealth run all 3 trains at once.

Yes there were 3 trains the first year. But it never did run 3 trains...with people.
The third train is no longer on sight. And rumor has it it's either A) sold back to Vecoma or B) using it for spare parts to Batwing or X-flight.
I got in line on Sat. with a full Que and waited 35 min. for the back seat with two trains running. (that's the longest I waited all this year). My usual wait time during weekdays is 20min. But that is mainly because I know when to REALLY hit X-Flight (never hit it in the morning).
To aswer Jeff's question:
You can't blame SFWoA for running 2 tains on X-flight this is strickly Vecoma's fault. For MANY reasons. The design is way to complicated for average guests to get in and out of the harnest...I don't care even if you are CP...the guests don't understand it to get in fast enough. With that said. If they did run 3 trains (and let's assume a CP/SFWoA effective we can do anything staff) When that 3 train hits the brake run it's going to have to sit there since the normal peeps can't get on and off the thing fast enough due to the restraints. Not to mention Vekoma still can't get X-Flight's computer system to work regularly to recline on the lift and come back up on the break run. Soooooo given that people just experience a HUGE rush on the ride them laying down on the break run does not go over well with guests comfort. SFWoA has realized that (I've talked to them on this). They don't want to have peoople passing out on the ride of course so they use two trains.
With all that aside X-Flight is a GREAT ride with some of the best G's anywhere in the USA.
Sometimes I just need to sit back and look at all the parks and see the great job they are doing. Rather than nit-picking who's the better :)
Come to Ohio!!!

That's a bit different. Mantis with three trains didn't push any more people through than it did with two trains ever since they added the seat belts to the restraints. Unless they come up with something better for a restraint, that will never change. Not sure what that has to do with X-Flight.
On the other hand, X-Flight even has two stations to accomodate three trains, and I've seen with my own eyes on better days two train operation run with plenty of time to get a train into the vacant station and push the capacity up. I can't blame Vekoma for canibalizing the third train. Reclining on the lift would also save precious time.
Someone always has an excuse there...

I agree Jeff I was just stating the obvious.
Also obvious is the fact that with two trains on Mantis they are still stacking half the time. I think a lot of this has to do with a couple ops from hell that when you are totally stading up decide thay they have to take the seat and lift it as far up as they can until you basically are sitting down. Kneemeister had the ride from hell at coastermania as an op lifted the seat up until Dave was on his tip toes the entire ride.
Here is a question. Opening day they had the trims off on Mantis, why are they back on? You said they were off because with two trains the timing issue was resolved. Why the change?
And to make htis X Flight related is X Flights third train even at SFWOA? I agree that half of X Flights problems are from Vekoma and not SFWOA but I may be wrong. Do any of the flying dutchmen consistently lower on the lift hill? Do any of them run 3 trains?
The Vekoma design seems so complicated once you see the B and M design. I don't know if I would like the new proposed B and M loading procedure as it would add more complexity. The way B and M flyers work now i't poetry in motion watching them lift up. So simple.

X-Flight sort of has a 3rd train, it's under the station, and torn up bad. SFWoA/Vekoma uses the train for spare parts to keep the other 2trains running. The B&M flyer isn't that much more complicated, people were having trouble on S:UF, but not as bad as some idiots on X-Flight.
Also i don't know why CP was brought up but they have some bad capacity somedays too. One day the ops decided to put a 2nd train on at about 12:00, but took it off 2hours later because there was only a 10 minute wait. BTW that was a june weekday last year, for the fanboys
Steve get a grip. First of all this isn't about CP, and second visit GTTP. Read everything. Browse the forums. I've been more critical of that park than I ever have about Geauga Lake.
