Me and my fiancee were in the metroplex this past weekend to attend the NASCAR truck and IRL races at the speedway. We decided we'd take advantage of our season passes and go to Six Flags on Friday.
We woke up about 7:30 Friday morning and looked out the balcony doors of my friend's apt to see it raining. It was a bad omen, or so we thought. I figured that it wouldn't be raining all day long, so we'd still make the trip and brave the weather. If anything it would keep the crowds away.
We got to the park and, to my surprise, I got a front row spot to park my purty blue truck in. :) We got into the park and waited with the rest of the crowd for them to drop the ropes and let us in the park. Once they did we let all the little kids sprint for Gotham City while we made a leisurely stroll to The Giant. It wasn't open yet. They were saying it wouldn't open for a half hour. So, we walked over to the Shockwave. It too was closed. SO, we walked back to check on the Giant. Still closed. Then we went to ride the Chaparral cars to kill some time. I hadn't ridden them in years, so it was fun. I let my fiancee drive. hehe Glad it wasn't a Dallas highway! ;)
We walked back to the Giant. It was open now. :) We got to the platform and waited 1 train for the front seat. My fiancee hadn't ever experienced a front seat on anything but Mr Freeze. She liked it. It was relatively smooth in the front, but not enough air. The midcourse brakes were on pretty tight too. :( Other than that, it was a great ride. I still rate the Giant my favorite ride in the park. After that ride, we made the loooong walk back around to ride the Giant again. This time we took the very back seat. I wanted to show my fiancee the differences in the ride. We hung around in the Latin part of the park (Spain/Mexico) after that. We rode the Conquistador and El Sombrero. La Vibora's que was full, so we passed on that since the line moves so slowly.
We took the long way back toward the front gate and got one last ride in on Runaway Mountain. There was about a 10 minute wait on this one. After that we stopped in Looney Tunes Land and enjoyed a strawberry smoothie, our favorite treat in the park, and then left the park around 1:30 or so.
We couldn't have picked a more perfect time to leave the park. As we were heading back toward the highway, I noticed some lightning to the west. I got on I30 and drove about a mile and then it started pouring! I was doing 20mph on the highway most of the way back to Ft Worth.
In all, this was a great day at the park. Light crowds and short lines always help. It was a bit on the humid side, but since it was cloudy, it was bearable. Although we only stayed for about half the day, we were able to get in everything we had wanted to do and maybe more.
