SFOG News

First, I read over at Screamscape about new, bigger seats this year for Superman at SFOG because, apparently, Gary Story couldn't fit into the seat and demanded a revision. Anyone else hear about this? Sounds a bit bogus to me, but you never know...

Second, Deja Vu down until late May/early June...come on! What gives with this piece of crap! They had the entire off-season to change the seating arrangement! Every year this coaster is down for huge chunks of time. I'll be pissed if the SFGAm version is closed May 3.

Kevin believe it or not the Deja Vu at SFOG is more realiable then the one @ SFGAm (closed its entire 1st season and hasnt been steller since) and the last time I was there they told me that they plan to employ the "temp rule" from now on stating that if the temp goes below 50 then wont run it, and yes this could potentially could be a problem in Chicago where I have seen it snow in May.

Also this whole "temp rule" an employee told me about can be completly thrown out if anyone who attended Fright Fest this year comes forward and says they rode it in temps under 50.

Hope you get to ride Deja Vu and S:UF, and enjoy your trip to the midwest!

It does stink that Deja Vu isnt working, but maybe it just isnt safe for riders???
I will gladly wait for them to get it fixed correctly and not indanger park goers
SFoG will live.. whether DV does or not. Damn Vekoma and damn all of you! J/K.. :)

Is it the real yellow or the yellow that they had on the coaster cars??

Kevin,

They've been working on DV all season. They didn't start on it just recently. Sometimes things take a while. Chill out.

DV has NEVER been unsafe by any stretch.....as long as PKI's grounds crew stays out of the way...;).

Problems abound with the under-engineered ride, and capacity is absolutely nightmarish (compounded greatly by the seating arrangement)...but there has never been an *accident* on any DV as far as I know....If I understand correctly, SF hopes to make adjustments that will reduce friction ENOUGH to prevent valleying...(I wish them LOTS of luck....they'll NEED it)...;)

While I don't know about the validity of this story, it wouldn't surprise me if it is indeed true. We (GM) made a mid-year change to the seats of the '02 Escalade because our CEO (a former Duke B-baller at 6'7") didn't like 'em. So, never say never....

I rode Superman this past weekend, and I didn't notice any change in the seats. They looked the same and felt the same. Thats not saying they did not get changed, because I am not a large individual. However, I did see several people still unable to fit into the seats and they were unable to ride.

LOL Gator!!

The Gary Story story (yuk yuk) is true to the best of my knowledge.

Well, if DV becomes more reliable and faster (less friction) I guess I'm for the changes....it just seems ridiculous that after 2 years of more off-time than on-time, the ride is down for a month or more at the beginning of this year.

I'm just wondering how the new seating arrangement would make the ride have less friction, as it is rumored that the zig-zag seating will stay. Lighter seats?

Well, Touchdown, I was at SFGAm the last operating weekend of the season (November 2) when the temps were in the upper 30's and DejaVu operated without any problems at all. I was able to get 8 rides of DV in...plus countless rides on the other coasters, too...

The rumor of a change in seating on DejaVu is just that: a rumor. No proof has ever been given that it will happen and when SFMM's came out of rehab - the perfect time to do such changes - the trains were the same.

The seats on S:UF were re-fitted, but the change is a mere 5 inches (which is very un-noticable)... I actually think there were a few seats that had be re-done at the end of the 2002 season, and now they have all been changed.

The difference in the seats is noticeable if you're a little bigger. I was all excited when I rode if for the first time this season, thinking I'd lost weight, then I remembered - bigger seats...:(
