we all now know that six flags Ohio is getting a flying coaster for 2001.my question is,how come there is no evidence of construction going on?I mean, shouldn't there be some footers in place,or some earth moved?doesn't it take about 6 months to build a coaster?I wonder if it will be open by opening day?
I believe they have already cleared the land...
After last year I'm not surprised by this. Everyone thought that SFO's new coasters would miss opening day last year. They didn't. I would expect to see some footers get poured here very shortly.

There are some footers there...

Ride with full FORCE
If I recall, last year they announced their gigantic expansion package sort of late, and there were concerns that it would not be ready by opening day. From what I hear, although everything was up and running for the opening, the finer points like the thematic elemets, signage, et all took place well into the season. Shott on Labor Day weekend they were still working on installing a ride, (was it the Mirage?)

Yes.
The Mirage, now Eldorado, never even opened last year.
hothitz: I dont think it takes 6 months (necessarily) to build a coaster. Look at SDC's Wildfire, I pretty much think it is finished and they didnt start construction until like september/october but defintely not back in July
I wonder if Six Flags are aware that quick construction can lead to some people doubting the safety of the ride.
I, of course, do not doubt any ride built once it passes the routine inspection.
Land is cleared for the new SFO coaster. I doubted that the park would be ready for opening day last year but they got 4 new coasters running and so much more done so one coaster will be no problem in my opionion. I'm sure footers will be poured in the next week if not already.

Well, actually they had 3 of the 4 new coasters operational on opening day, but they were the 3 biggies, so I was happy ;)
I'm more worried about Kennywood's Phantom's Revenge being ready for opening day than SFO's dutchman -- if nothing else their opening day is earlier ;)

If you ask me... Roadrunner Express doesn't count. It could fall apart and I would probably be happy. However, you are right. It is a coaster and it one of the 4 for 2000. Now... are SUE and Mind Eraser really coasters? Hehe.

by this time last year didn't they already have construction started?
At this time last year, Land was being cleared and footers were begining to be prepared. For this project, all the land that really needs to be cleared is a parking lot area and a back road re-built.
I have no idea what the park is doing near Grizzly Run, but I wouldn't doubt that they retheme grizzly Run to "Penguines Blizzard River" and work a path way back up around to the Roadrunner.
well at least now I won't have to go to California
to ride a flying coaster. I live about eight hours away from sfo. I will be there to ride the new one
The activity near Grizzly Run is most likely a rehab to fix some leaks in the ride path.
i remember in the 97/98 offseason serial thriller was only 1/3 of the way done in late february!
Well, lately, SFO has been really good at getting most of their stuff up and operating by the start of the season, but they sure do come close to not making it!
