SFNE History

I was hoping that someone could help me out with a couple things here concerning the history of Six Flags New England...

First of all, when did the park initially open? Was it a theme park from the very beginning, or how did SFNE become a theme park?

Also, are there any other milestones in SFNE's history other than the major coasters, water park being added, acquision by Premier Parks, eventually Six Flags, etc.?

(my most airtime ride/coaster topic got deleted)

Well the 40's was the year the park had its first coaster, and 1983 came Cyclone, which became the best wood coaster in the world @ The time (Major Milestone) and then small things occured, the park and NASCAR had a good relationship since there was a large Gokart or Nascar track there... It was a family type park and then was purchased....

Yeah, that used to be the big thing, go to Riverside and the NASCAR tracks to bet on some races and they had that cool stage for all the bands over there too.

when Riverside Park put in the "Loop Coaster" (Arrow Shuttle Loop) in 1977 it was pretty revolutionary for the time, in addition to pulling quite a few positive Gs
Yay! the Black Widow!
The Park intially started out as a Picnic Grove and soon started adding amusment type attractions. It opened in 1840 as "Gallups Grove" then in the late 1880's they changed it to "Riverside Grove" before being shortened to just "Riverside" in 1912. Then, in 2000, as you know they were converted to a SF Park.

That whole Nascar track got tore out in 2000 when they built S:RoS.

In 1941 they aquired Thunderbolt. In 1974 they got their Wildcat coaster. In 1977 they got the black widow coaster. In 1983 they got rid of wildcat. Also in 1983 they built Cyclone. It was named the scariest coaster in america when it opened. In 1997 they got Mind Eraser. In 1999 they got rid of Black Widow. In 2000 they built S:RoS and got Flashback from SFKK. In 2002 they built Batman:DK.
