SFMM vs SFGAm

making our first trip to SFGAm this month and was watching the coasters of the west last night. What coasters are the same at Great America. Are all the Batmans exactly the same? I saw V2 . Is Goliath just like RB and so on??? Just wondering??

Batman - same

Shockwave - same as Viper just not as good.

Viper - similar to Cyclone, but a great coaster.

American Eagle - similar to Colossus.

I believe that is it.

SFGA OVER SFMM anyday....

Um, Iggy, ToS? Grant it that your post will be deleted, because your not supposed to do match ups and versus columns. Besides, he just asked if any of the rides at either park were clones.

Batman:The Ride at SFMM is a clone, but SFMM seem to run a lot better. The theming at Magic Mountain was done totally different and is much better. Magic Mountain's version gives a little smoother ride and is not rusting.

Delay Ja' vu are clones of each other as well, but what seperates them from eachother? The wooden platform ;)

Viper is not the same as Shockwave. For one, Viper will give you a much better ride and is not as much of a pain as Shockwave. Mainly, Viper features different transitions, some landscaping, and killer first and last drop.

It actually stops there. American Eagle and Collossus are totally different. Collossus for one is not an out and back coaster.

Psyclone and Viper have no blood relationship, the closes they are would be brother in law.

Goliath and Raging Bull are not really the same except for the first three hills. Though Giovanola did help out in the making of both rides, the similarities end there. Goliath is a lot more intense and is notorious for its theme and light show. The extreme twisting elements are what set the edge for Goliath at most.

Even though it's *labeled* as a Vs. thread, I'm gonna guess this one will stay around....

SFMM has their B:TR running in top form, and the misters at the station add nicely to the theming. SFMM has their Deja Vu running consistently (and not valleying anymore now that the platform is there). Viper is better than Shockwave in terms of a smooth ride, but both are WAAAAY better than the one in Joisey, which plain hurts. AE, I liked a lot better than my recent trips on Colossus, which needs some work badly. (I only got a couple backward trips on AE, and it squealed a lot, but ran pretty well). Viper at SFGAM is a Cy-clone worthy of its heritage, Psy-clone is an abomination and is the closest I've ever come to deeming a woodie "ready for a match".

Goliath is right up there with MF (just a notch below S:RoS), and a fantastic ride. I'm gonna guess that there was no *conspiracy* and that Bull was once a great ride....now, there's more brakes than drops....I guess the "competition" for V2 would be S:TE, and while I love the tall ride at SFMM (and the statue on top), the ride at SFGAm gets the nod. Overall, a good matchup, and I'd probably say SFMM by a nose, but never did get to the water rides at SFGAM (mid-50's and rainy NOT our kind of water-ride weather).... .

It IS surprising to see how many similarities there are, though....

Nobody mentioned Whizzer. It's a totally unique coaster in the US, and has the least thrilling, least scary, most fun ride a coaster could give.

If SFMM has a B:TR in better shape than SFGAm, then... well, I don't know, it must be running better than day 1! SFGAm's has rusty rails, but the ride is still as smooth as the first time I rode it, and the rust makes it fit the theme better.

The DVD! (Deja Vu Defender)

SFGAm's Batman is in a *much* better location than the others. Rather than flipping over a gravel pit, the entire second half whips you through large trees and over a pond. I've noticed that SFGAm's Batman can ge tempermental and give very different rides depending on the day, but if it's hot chances are it will run great, especially later in the day.

Deja Vu has been running extremely well lately and didn't even go down at all yesterday (as far as I could tell).

Ok Shockwave and Viper are not the same. They have the same elements but there are a few more turns and dips. And Collosus is nothing like American Eagel. Sure same track colors and they race but that is where the similarities end. In my opinion Magic Mountain most definatly takes the title for the better of the two. Their rides are usually new and exicting and now with X there is no competition. I want to ride X so badly but when I was there It was closed because of the Season Pass preview. even though it was open the day before and the day after!!!

Whizzer ROCKS...I hope the mechanic who said "it's gone at year's end" was yanking my chain, but it SURE didn't seem that way. Apparently, much like the other Antons, maintenance and parts have become *an issue*. Anton's son may be in the business, but he's gotta get a rep POST-HASTE if he's gonna keep these great older rides running...(and I for one really hope he does)....
SFGAm is much better than SFMM in almost every way i think...especially after going to the Con (and Im not ranting cause X wasnt open). I for one like Shockwave much more than Viper...Viper to me is much rougher and less powerful...the trims kill Viper IMHO. Also I love that killer turn into Shockwave block brake (which is the only part that I think could be really rough on the ears....but I dont hit on Shockwave or almost any looping coaster at all.)

Here are the comparisons at what I think...

Batman vs. Batman - Edge: SFGAm
Goliath vs. Raging Bull - Edge: SFGAm
Riddler vs. Iron Wolf - Edge: SFMM
Whizzer vs. Revolution - Edge: SFGAm
Viper vs. Shockwave - Edge: SFGAm
Superman vs. V2 - Edge: SFGAm
Deja Vu vs. Deja Vu - Edge: SFGAm (better location)
A Eagle vs. Colossus - Edge: SFGAm
Viper vs Psyclone - Edge: SFGAm (dont make me laugh)

thats what i think anyway :)

Hey if you are going to SFGAm go on Whizzer. It'll be gone in September. 100% positive. Don't ask and don't argue. That mechanic wasn't yanking you chain.

Now I am no where near a fan of SFMM, but your answer is obivously going to be biased...just look at your screen name. Anyway if I had to pick, I would take SFGAm by far.
