'Ello Coaster Fans!
I just got back from my week and half of site seeing and riding roller coasters in Arizona and California :-) I'll just tell you of my experiences at Six Flags Magic Mountain (SFMM) in this report.
For the last two weeks before I left, I have been getting lots of reports, up here in Ohio, of SFMM being dead and walk on rides. Yes, we (me and 3 other people) did go on a Saturday, BUT MAN! We arrived at 12pm and pulled up to the toll booth. Hey, I wonder if they count that fake coaster as one of their own LOL?) We soon found the WHOLE parking lot overflowing. We parked so far back I thought we were at Knott's Berry Farm! I could not believe the stupidity of the parking lot. The walking was AWEFUL (I couldn't wait until I had to walk this when I left). They had 2 trams with a huge waiting line…so forget that. We walked.
We finally made it to the gate as we were waiting to get our tickets I began to feel really really uncomfortable. Shawna and I looked around and noticed we were surrounded by almost every single "gang type" person in CA!! Keep in mind I'm IN NO WAY prejudice in any form please. BUT I have never seen so many at one place and let a lone at a theme park!! Worst part was almost everyone of them acted like they owned theworld. Anyway, we used my SFO coupon for 50% off. And then we had to pass 50 or so Cops and go through the medal detectors (Now I know why these are there)! I was expecting happy strolling families all day or something, but not this.
We enter the main gates…First impressions: VERY nice! I like how you can't see what's coming up, BUT I think they almost did it to well (some people I noticed felt trapped). I'll condence this down in to 3 categories now. Park Layout, Rides, and Overall Feel:

We then went to ride Pysclone and of course it was closed. Then we went to Superman…WOW one LONG line!! And only one side running! MAN! But of course I had to ride it since I'm from Ohio :-) and I had to see what all the talk was about. I think this ride was the biggest disappointment of my WHOLE trip. Sorry SFMM people. Not only did it take forever to get on the ride but once there. I was actually looking forward to riding the thing. I was expecting a force like Speed, or SUE, or OL:FOF. Nothing like it. There is not sudden force to 100mph. There is acceleration yes, but not force. I think the biggest mistake Intamin made with this was they made the front WAY to high!! The wind clears the car, which I think made it seem A LOT slower! Mforce and Goliath both seemed twice as fast as this thing! We went up, great floatage, and we cam back, kept going back and wham!! WHAT?! That wasn't supposed to happen. We over shot the brakes!! That was the funnest part of the ride! It took about 10min for them to hook up a wench and pull us back to the loading dock. Good news, they let us go again! I actually thought I might rate this a coaster coming into the park, but IN NO WAY any more! It doesn't have a consistent height half the time I think the car went under 300ft up. Not gravity driven (launched). And it's not continuous circuit. It is a nice thrill ride though. I'll take Power Tower ANY DAY of this thing though. We then went to Ninja. Great ride (long line). I love the way this thing is sent on the side of the mountain. I think Top Gun (at PKI swings better) but Ninja is longer. I rank it right below or maybe even with Big Bad Wolf. We went to ride everything else but waits were WAY WAY to long (the 4+ hour waits) came in here. So we ended up just waiting in line for Goliath. Heck, I had to ride this thing! Nice theming. This ride is probably #2 or #3 on my Greatest Coaster Lists!! WOW I wasn't expecting much but WOW! I'm serious about this…they literally just push everyone out of the way!! One of my friends got hit and she said excuse me rather nicely and the "gang related" guy told her to "F$%% off" They have MORE than a problem at this park! They had about 1/3 to almost half of the shops and food stand closed down. And worst yet, I found out they had to close the park down because it was getting to crowded. Go figure! So we all know how this is going to keep going. Unfortunately, mine and the rest of my friends day were more than ruined by that atmosphere of the park. And will take almost any park over SFMM. Unfortunately I ranked this one of the worst parks I have visited. And I hope they can fix the problems FAST before the new rides come in. They don't need coasters. They need the other stuff.
Now even though my friends only experienced the above, I went back the next day with my SFO pass for 3 hours. (when the park wasn't congested…at least not yet) And it was A LOT better…for a while. I rode every ride in 3 hours…yes every ride. I realized this park doesn't have a lot to do (if you leave out Loony Toon Town) There is a lot of walking yes (I think that helps spread out things) But a lot of stuff was closed. I would really like to see the park with everything open and running! As for my raitings on rides:
Revolution: GREAT ride (keep your head back or you'll get bruised) love how it's built and many unexpected drops…great G's
Viper: good drop, rank below Vortex at PKI
Riddler's Revenge: good drop and first loop. Long. Reminds me of Kumba. This ride would be better with sit down trains. Not as good as Mantis but I still rank King Cobra at PKI the best. If you have a stand up you have to have air time!!!! The train has to leave your feet!!
Batman: GREAT ride very fast paced. AWESOME G's rank about even or a little below Raptor and Alpengeist.

'Ello Coaster Fans!
I just got back from my week and half of site seeing and riding roller coasters in Arizona and California :-) I'll just tell you of my experiences at Six Flags Magic Mountain (SFMM) in this report.
For the last two weeks before I left, I have been getting lots of reports, up here in Ohio, of SFMM being dead and walk on rides. Yes, we (me and 3 other people) did go on a Saturday, BUT MAN! We arrived at 12pm and pulled up to the toll booth. Hey, I wonder if they count that fake coaster as one of their own LOL?) We soon found the WHOLE parking lot overflowing. We parked so far back I thought we were at Knott's Berry Farm! I could not believe the stupidity of the parking lot. The walking was AWEFUL (I couldn't wait until I had to walk this when I left). They had 2 trams with a huge waiting line…so forget that. We walked.
We finally made it to the gate as we were waiting to get our tickets I began to feel really really uncomfortable. Shawna and I looked around and noticed we were surrounded by almost every single "gang type" person in CA!! Keep in mind I'm IN NO WAY prejudice in any form please. BUT I have never seen so many at one place and let a lone at a theme park!! Worst part was almost everyone of them acted like they owned theworld. Anyway, we used my SFO coupon for 50% off. And then we had to pass 50 or so Cops and go through the medal detectors (Now I know why these are there)! I was expecting happy strolling families all day or something, but not this.

We then went to ride Pysclone and of course it was closed. Then we went to Superman…WOW one LONG line!! And only one side running! MAN! But of course I had to ride it since I'm from Ohio :-) and I had to see what all the talk was about. I think this ride was the biggest disappointment of my WHOLE trip. Sorry SFMM people. Not only did it take forever to get on the ride but once there. I was actually looking forward to riding the thing. I was expecting a force like Speed, or SUE, or OL:FOF. Nothing like it. There is not sudden force to 100mph. There is acceleration yes, but not force. I think the biggest mistake Intamin made with this was they made the front WAY to high!! The wind clears the car, which I think made it seem A LOT slower! Mforce and Goliath both seemed twice as fast as this thing! We went up, great floatage, and we cam back, kept going back and wham!! WHAT?! That wasn't supposed to happen. We over shot the brakes!! That was the funnest part of the ride! It took about 10min for them to hook up a wench and pull us back to the loading dock. Good news, they let us go again! I actually thought I might rate this a coaster coming into the park, but IN NO WAY any more! It doesn't have a consistent height half the time I think the car went under 300ft up. Not gravity driven (launched). And it's not continuous circuit. It is a nice thrill ride though. I'll take Power Tower ANY DAY of this thing though. We then went to Ninja. Great ride (long line). I love the way this thing is sent on the side of the mountain. I think Top Gun (at PKI swings better) but Ninja is longer. I rank it right below or maybe even with Big Bad Wolf. We went to ride everything else but waits were WAY WAY to long (the 4+ hour waits) came in here. So we ended up just waiting in line for Goliath. Heck, I had to ride this thing! Nice theming. This ride is probably #2 or #3 on my Greatest Coaster Lists!! WOW I wasn't expecting much but WOW! I'm serious about this…they literally just push everyone out of the way!! One of my friends got hit and she said excuse me rather nicely and the "gang related" guy told her to "F$%% off" They have MORE than a problem at this park! They had about 1/3 to almost half of the shops and food stand closed down. And worst yet, I found out they had to close the park down because it was getting to crowded. Go figure! So we all know how this is going to keep going. Unfortunately, mine and the rest of my friends day were more than ruined by that atmosphere of the park. And will take almost any park over SFMM. Unfortunately I ranked this one of the worst parks I have visited. And I hope they can fix the problems FAST before the new rides come in. They don't need coasters. They need the other stuff.
Now even though my friends only experienced the above, I went back the next day with my SFO pass for 3 hours. (when the park wasn't congested…at least not yet) And it was A LOT better…for a while. I rode every ride in 3 hours…yes every ride. I realized this park doesn't have a lot to do (if you leave out Loony Toon Town) There is a lot of walking yes (I think that helps spread out things) But a lot of stuff was closed. I would really like to see the park with everything open and running! As for my raitings on rides:
Revolution: GREAT ride (keep your head back or you'll get bruised) love how it's built and many unexpected drops…great G's
Viper: good drop, rank below Vortex at PKI
Riddler's Revenge: good drop and first loop. Long. Reminds me of Kumba. This ride would be better with sit down trains. Not as good as Mantis but I still rank King Cobra at PKI the best. If you have a stand up you have to have air time!!!! The train has to leave your feet!!
Batman: GREAT ride very fast paced. AWESOME G's rank about even or a little below Raptor and Alpengeist.

Sound slike you loved the park at the end of the report! "If you like flat rides go to Knott's Berry Farm" I say but there are flat rides in Colosus county fair. I thought you might really like Riddler's Revenge more! I think it is tied with Goliath as the best ride in the park! When I went there was like no gang related people there! I think you probibly thought the clothes were gane related but hey Its how CA is its the style! Try No cal parks next time I think by the way you sound you would Love Santa Cruz Beach Board Walk. SFMM is understaffed in the winter thats why there is so much crap everywere.
There's one thing about people from the Midwest, we take for granted people being curtious and nice to each other, but unfortunately outside the region you'll find that a lot of people only care about themselves.
I'm not saying its a terrible thing, its just a way to keep yourself from going nuts when you have that many people in a region.

I just came back from an awsome trip yesterday. No lines, and everything was opened except for Flaskback and Psyclone, wich is closed for the winter. This was probably the best trip to MM I've ever had. I think I have a new top ten as well.
1) Goliath
2) Batman(if you get the front)
3) Viper
4) Riddler's Revenge
5) Ghost Rider
There are a few things I must say. First of all, I 100% disagree with what you said about Ninja. I think MM should tear that piece out. I think it's worthless. Second, you said Colossus was smooth. Hmmmm. Okay. Third, you weren't missing anything at all as far as Flashback and Psyclone goes. There are no two coasters on the planet that slam your head around like these. You were better off not being able to ride them. One more thing, there is only one way your head will get bumped around on Viper, and that is if you are under 5'5. If you are any taller, you are fine. The pretzel loop makes this lide number three on my list. Oh ya, what you said about Superman is totaly true. I don't particularly care for it either. I think MM's biggest flaw in the history of the park is putting a pay phone right underneath it. This ride is so loud. It doesn't matter where you are in the park. Whenever they send a car the whole entire park closes their ears.

Sounds like you hit a really good park on a really bad day. That whole Christmas / New Year's few weeks is a bad time to go. Lots of people visiting family, others off work, all looking for something to do, SFMM is open, bingo. Add to it the winter downtime (Psyclone & FlashBack) and short staffing, you get a recipe for disaster. 4 hour lines?!? I find that difficult to believe.

Matthew, sorry to hear about your visit. I will agree with you on most of your points. I never go there unless its for an ACE event or I know the park will be empty. I am glad there is someone else out there who likes Ninja, I too think its a good ride, especially at night. You cant beat 4+ g's on a suspended. Glad you had a great time at Knotts and your no waiting on Ghostrider is very common. I go at least once a week for this fact alone, not to mention it's the greatest wooden coaster on the planet. :)

2-4 hour lines during the off season??? Hell No!!!!!! Sounds like a bit of exaggeration to me. The longest line ALL summer was for Goliath and that was just under 2 hours. But for the most part you did give an honest trip report.
I can believe it. Went there just before Halloween and the off season cutbacks were already in progress. Like Soggy says, short staffs, rolling stock in the shop, and a lot of people looking for something to do adds up to some pretty long lines.
Magic Mountain is always like this. I hope everyone learns from his sad adventure. Thank God he/she had time to get to Knott's for a good time.
