SFMM Colossus - where was the reprofile?

Colossus and Psyclone trains are certainly interchangeable because the track gauge is the same, but they're not the same trains. Colossus (usually) runs Morgan trains, while Psyclone (usually) runs trains built by B&M.

It's amazing to hear how Colossus used to be a much more intense ride. My only ride came in 2001, and it felt like a large version of one of the PTC family woodies. Granted, in my book, that still ranks above a few larger woodies (cough... Mean Streak... cough).

Growing up east of the Mississippi, my first exposure to Colossus came via Vacation, so it's good to know that the ride was once as impressive as it looked. Dare I mention Colossus' Vacation co-star, Revolution...

When I rode it for the first time in 1990 it was a very thrilling, airfilled fun ride. Both sides were running but not racing.

I didn´t have much woodie knowledge back then and maybe I would have been excited by everything on my first US trip, but it certainly was as good as the Santa Cruz Big Dipper and The Coney Island Cyclone.
I even preferred it to the American Eagle at SFGAM which was another stop-over. Colossos had very good air in the back. The small hill after the second drop was great and the double up and down was wild and fun. The only thing that was a little boring were the huge turns, but I guess this is just because the trains didn´t race.

Oh, I nearly forgot Rolling Thunder which even in 1990 was a washboarding nightmare and the first woodie I have experienced where I just wanted to get out.

escher26, are you sure that Colossus and Psyclone are the 2 worst woodies in CA? ***cough PGA Grizzly***cough***.

Pass da' sizzrup, bro!

The trains for both Psyclone and Colossus are interchangeable. I have ridden Psyclone in a Colossus train...haven't ridden Colossus in a Psytrain yet...

Colossus and Psyclone trains are certainly interchangeable because the track gauge is the same, but they're not the same trains. Colossus (usually) runs Morgan trains, while Psyclone (usually) runs trains built by B&M.

Some clarification is still in order.

One thing the Morgan [Colossus] and B&M [Psyclone] trains have in common is that the brake fins are off center but on opposite sides of the train.

That means in order to run Psyclone's trains on Colossus and be able to stop it they must run backwards, and vice versa.

Wondering....would the Morgans from Colossuck help Psucklone at all? The trackwork is pre-destroyed, but perhaps the lighter Morgan train would lessen the destruction of Psucklone...running backwards on ANY Cy-clone would be a cool thing too...:)
Hey, I have that old Vincent Price video, but I haven't watched it in a decade or more... don't even remember what all is on it. I remember Mr. Price calls them "rolly coasters" though. ;)

My blog You said, "I'm gonna run you down." I heard, "I'm an orangutan."

Step away from the crack pipe, Gator ;)
America Screams! is the Vincent Price video. It's a great video, and I absolutely love Vincent Price. The look on his face on Collossus first drop is absolutely priceless :)

Corey - I've never seen that video...is Colossus the only coaster Price rides? What other coasters are featured?

You know, those headrests on Psyclone's trains are there for a reason...

I remember Elich's Mr. Twister from the video looked insane. Mr. Price rides that. The park looks great in the video too. I wish I could have visited when the park actually had gardens. The old location was pretty ghetto by the time I finally made it.
I'll check tonight to see what's on the video, but I'm sure someone else will post it's contents before then.

kRaX, that's why Moosh told me to step AWAY from the crack pipe, LOL....

Seriously, it would take WAY more effort to make something decent out of Psucklone than to just *taer it down* and start from scratch....as Poppy on Seinfeld told us: "on that, there can be no debate". ;).

But, since I'm *not quite right*, I'd do the month or two of chiropractic adjustments for that one "harrowing" ride....even *I* wouldn't want to try it twice....:)

There is nothing like the board slapping on Psyclone.
Moosh - I just watched the video again and he is featured on Santa Cruz Giant Dipper, Collossus, Gold Rusher, some skyride, and the Flume at SFMM.

Zingo! - He doesn't actually ride, he's just standing next to it. I'm guessing he's standing next to Colossus since most of the video is filmed there or at the Santa Cruz boardwalk.

The coolest parts of the video would have to be the interview with John Allen and Arrow "Development", shots of Colossus construction, and original Mr. Twister POV.

Thanks, Corey ;)

I bought that video off of eBay awhile back. I kept thinking, "Is he saying rolly coaster?"
