SFKK 4/5/05

Associated parks:
None

Weather: Sunny, warm

Crowds: Light to Moderate

"Drop Zone just got owned"

The PKI crew Todd, Big James, Brandon, Ricky, Nick, and I all left PKI around 8:30 (planned time was 8) and stopped at McDonalds at about 9:15 and arrived at the park after a stop at Kroger to get SFKK season passes at about 11:00. We went into the park and headed to the left walked past the closed Breakdance(which I wanted to ride) and headed toward Greezed Lightnin'

Greezed Lightnin' 8/10

This ride is truly amazing backwards. The forward launch was sweet, but that loop backwards was awesome. My first coaster of the year and 47th ever rocked! It was a good thing we rode it early, because it was broke down for a lot of the day, and they kept trying to launch it and it was barely even making it to the loop, it was quite amusing, and one time it didn't even launch.

Chang 8/10 2 rides

Chang was running smooth today, in the front and back. The first loop even caused me to gray out, which was a nice suprise. Not to mention as the park got more crowded throughout the day they put on a SECOND TRAIN. Good job Six Flags, they were showing a lot of promise for us today.

T2 5/10 1 ride

The last time I was at the park this ride was my second favorite behind Chang (of course this was in 1998) and now it's crap. I remembered it being smooth, but it was rough and boring, although the zero-g rolls were nice.

Thunder Run 10/10 4 rides

This ride by far was the biggest suprise of the trip. We had heard good things, but weren't expecting this. This ride is my new #1 woodie, although I"m not quite well traveled. I love the layout, it's got great air and laterals. Get this the ride crew ran the ride for 15 extra minutes so we could get 2 more rides in! They didn't close off the line until 10 after 6. Another good move by Six Flags

Twisted Twins - Lola 8/10 1 ride

Back in 1998 I took these for granted. I just kind of rode them and blah you know I was a youngin of 11, and didn't know a whole lot, but this ride was also another awesome woodie. While not having a lot of airtime, and the dueling is well, a little lackluster, the ride as a whole is just fun.

Twisted Twins Stella 9/10 2 rides

The KI crew was excited to ride Stella, because of an inside joke. This side is the better of the two, and I think the airtime is a little better. The helix at the end is also a nice touch.

Rollerskater 6/10 1 ride

It's a fun little ride, but we rode it just to say we did. The line wan't too bad either.

Hellevator 8/10 1 ride

Two of the sides were down but it was only about a 10 minute wait which was good. This ride just slaughters Drop Zone in sensation. The thing starts braking about 30 feet above ground and stops about 10. It's just nuts. I was amazingly suprised.

We took a break had some nachos which were delicious and walked around rode the ferris wheel which was interesting with all of us in the same car, the Rainbow, which is a fun little ride, the Flying Dutchmen, which we loved how they bring the shoes to the ground, and the Ballon Race which was a little dull and boring, but I wasn't expecting much.

Roadrunner Express 7/10 1 ride

This was another fun little ride. The laterals were good, but I was expecting a little airtime, but I wasn't disappointed at all. They also added another car on this ride toward the end of the night.

Overall we were extremely pleased with SFKK. I heard such bad things about the park, and we had a great time. The only problem is that stupid bridge, but not a whole lot they can do about that.

Glad to hear you had fun.

SFKK seems like a good park. The only thing that annoys me is that even though SF will put a second train on for busier crowds, they do it during the afternoon and it takes 15 minutes, and then, at least with Superman at SFDL, it will get stuck on the lift about 10 times and eventually people will be forced to walk down the catwalk.

They'd be better off just putting on the second train at the BEGINNING of the day and saving themselves the trouble.

Well I guess you can't always plan trips keeping weather forecasts in mind. When I checked on Friday, rain and cold were predicted for the weekend in Louisville.

Never Has Gravity Been So Uplifting.

It is truely satisfying to hear such a positive report about our park, especially after the numerous bad things that have been said in the past. I'm really glad you enjoyed Thunder Run so much, it received some new tracking this year so I guess that paid off! Great report!
I liked SFKK, with the exception that both sides of the Twins weren't open (at least now I found out which one I rode).

Thunder Run is a good woody for a number one, I liked it really well also. Granted, I've not been to Kneobles or Holiday World, but Thunder Run is a great woody.

Glad you had a great time, hope I get back there this year.

While i was there the employees were really nice anc always called me sir. Its hard to run 2 trains at KK. On chang there are 2 ride ops and one person working the controls. The ride op on the side of the entrance to the train has to keep the poeple back and only let so many people into the station to keep it organized, then has to do his or her ride op duties. Like at CP on mantis you have one person doing the spiel, one person at controls, 2-3 ride ops checking restraints, and one person keeping the line organized. They do good with what they have.
After reading your report it looks like Six Flags has taken some of there problems into consideration. Two-train operations, "polite" workers. There still not perfect but it seems like there working on it. Was it clean?

I saw no trash anywhere, i saw several workers sweeping throughout the park.

Way to go - Six Flags!

What? A good time at SFKK? How can that be? Everyone* says that park sucks! ;)

Early in the morning when they were running one train the Chang situation was right, however, later on in the day they had an extra person standing letting people into the station, so that helped their capacity a lot. Just a shame that Lola Stella and Thunder Run only run 1 train.

I am praying this is not just a Kentucky Kingdom thing and happens chain wide.

Watch the tram car please....
I am going to have to do my own TR on the wonderful day at KK. The day started off great when i was going through the turnstiles and gave my printed admission ticket to a man and he was like sir may i please see an ID. I showed him my license and he said Mr. (my last name) have a great day here at SFKK. That was really nice i was treated like a human being. It was such a magical day at the park. I have only been going to parks since last year and have onl been to CP, PKI(My Home Park) Geauga lake and now KK. Overall the nicest staff in my oppinion who treated me with the best respect is KK. I have had bad expierences with the TTD and MF crews for not being consistent with the rules and thinking they are so great cause they work those two rides. in Park cleanliess, employee attitudes, and overall expierences at the parks, my short list is:

1: SFKK
2: PKI
3: CP
4: GL

Adding a second train on Thunder Run would involve adding a tranfer track, an extended amount of breaks, and an extra block section. Personally, thunder run is too short to put that much time and effort into a project that would not make much of a difference (when you really think about it). It's only a 2 and a half minute ride, so it really doesn't need a second train. The long wait is really just because it is one of the two most popular rides in the park (the other being Chang).

I realise this, I'm just saying it's a shame that they do only run 1 train.

Ah ok! No problem. :)

I've said it many times, Thunder Run is the most overlooked gem in the south. I love that coaster! It really has some great pops of air...front and back. At night, it just flies! The only thing I can think of that would make the experience better would be a tunnel somewhere along the layout (maybe after the first drop on the low curve).

I'm glad to hear such a positive report about SFKK. I've always had a good time there. I think they're only going to continue to watch their back now that Beech Bend is deciding to up the ante next year.

Pops of air? My feet were off the floor for 4-5 seconds for each pop of air. It has more airtime than magnum.

Its a shame the park removed the double up...I bet that was some serious air, too!
Thunder Run had a double up?

Why do parks remove these?!?!?!:(
