June 15, 2001 Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom
* out of 5 stars. This park is a disgrace to Six Flags. This small park is divided into two sections by a road. The weather was very hot and sunny. The park was very uncrowded except for the water park. Parking was only $3. I am glad that we have season passes because this park is not worth the admission price. The calender says that the park opens at 10:00. When we try to go to the side with the coasters and the water park, an employee informs us that the coasters don’t open until 11:00! So we decide to ride some of the rides on the entrance side of the park. Most of these rides were closed also.
Road Runner Express *** A fun wild mouse that has a well themed station. The brakes were on a little too much, but there was no wait.
Tin Lizzies ** Normal antique car ride with some theming. They had about 5 cars running so wait was 15 minutes.
Escape From Dino Island II ** A very good film but it wasn’t in 3-D like at SFOT. A lot of the seats were also broke. 15 minute wait
Now the other side of the park opened. Chang comes by first, but everybody went to it. We went to T2 but it was closed. Penguin’s Blizzard River would open at 12:30, so we went to Twisted Sisters. It was closed and they didn’t know when it would open. Almost everything was closed. We finally found something that was open at 11:30!
Thunder Run *** A fast, fun woodie. This was a nice surprise; there was airtime galore. The attendants were young teenagers, maybe 16. Only one train was running, and the middle part was blocked off. We sat in our seat, but my dad’s lapbar would not go down. The ride op said that it’s been broke “for awhile.” The only thing holding my dad in was a loose seat belt. I have never seen this at any other Six Flags. This is a hidden gem though. Smooth but short. Worth at least a couple of rides. Walk-on
Twisted Sisters ** Only one side was open (the pink). Only one train running with only 2 employees! This ride has an excellent layout, but way too rough. I could hear and feel the upstop wheels every drop.
T2 * This is the roughest Vekoma SLC I have ridden. Not much head banging, but jerky momentum. It would accelerate, then stop, then accelerate. Only one train was running. 15 minute wait.
Chang **** ½ Excellent B&M standup. This parks only redeeming ride. Smooth, fast, and intense. This one is long also. Only ONE train running, even though it was made to run 3 trains. The crew (3) was pathetic, one train launched every 5 minutes. 45 minute wait.
We left after this. The water park looked nice but this park does not deserve the Six Flags name. My home park of Wonderland in Amarillo is better than this. Not worth the regular admission, but worth the $3 parking I paid.
