ARRIVED: 11:00 am

LEFT: 7:00 pm

PARK APPEARANCE/ATMOSPHERE: To all the people who say this park is always such a mess and that there is always trash all over the park I think you never really came to this park. Every time I visit it is always extremely clean and tidy even when the park is packed with people. Today was no exception. The park was clean, tidy, and beautiful as always.

RIDE QUEUE TIMES: On the Raging Bull side of the park most rides had about a ten to fifteen minute wait. The obvious exception was Déjà vu which was somewhere in the 2 ½ to three hour range. The other side of the park had huge lines with Batman taking the lead at an hour and a half. All the water ride lines were huge because it was freaking hot out.

BEST EXPERIENCE: Riding Viper. This coaster grows on me more and more every season. I took the advice of several on this board and rode in 1.3 and never ever had a better ride. More on that later…

WORST EXPERIENCE: Having to leave at the end of the day.

MOST PLEASANT SURPRISE: The park did everything to keep the park patrons cool on a very hot day. I saw several places to cool off that one would not have to wait in line to enjoy. There were misters throughout the park running, a guy with a fire hose was drenching people in front of the Mooseburger Lodge and there were sprinklers running in the Southwest territory. Plenty of options. Also, every bathroom has a set of drinking fountains so drinkable water can be had for free at this park.

BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT: V2 was closed again. I am absolutely jinxed when it comes to riding an impulse coaster. Every time I go to a park that has one it is either broken down or has a three hour line to ride it. I missed this coaster in about 10 visits last year, 8 times because it was broken, twice because it was a three hour line and I was with my non coaster riding spouse. My visit to SFWOA was on a day that S:UE was not running. For the knowledge of the GP, I will be at CP on July 23 and 24 so if you want to ride Wicked Twister don’t bother coming those days. I am sure it will be broke.

COASTER RANKINGS

WITHOUT FLAW:

Viper: This baby was my airtime friend all day long. I was sitting in 1.3 which is my new money seat and I was getting massive ejector airtime throughout the ride. The last hill I was getting powerful stand up air on a two or three click ride.

REALLY QUITE GOOD:

Batman: The Ride: This is a very fun, intense invert. Not my favorite but fun nonetheless. I have to give the Batman in St Louis the nod though in the battle of the clones. I just had more fun on theirs.

Raging Bull: Whoever said that this ride was lacking somewhat was right. My morning rides on this beast were highly disappointing. Very little air except the main drop and even that was a bit sour. Afternoon rides, however, totally rocked with killer air throughout the ride.

American Eagle Backwards: Great new perspective on this ride. They should run it like this all the time. It would probably be the only way I would re ride this otherwise rough wooden monster.

Demon: I just cannot hate this wonderful Arrow looper. This is my favorite Arrow looper ever and it didn’t disappoint today. I love the air off the first drop, the intensity of the loops, and the wonderful theming of this ride. I wish they would just leave the theme music on instead of just playing it for the brief moments that a train is in the first tunnel. Very little head banging and very reridable today.

MAJOR NON-COASTER ACTIVITIES: I hit the “To Fly” in the Pictorium. This was one of the first movies that they showed there and I had forgot how much it was like the movies I had watched when I was in grade school. Then again I grew up in the seventies when the movie was made.

I hit the buffet in Southwest Territory today and I will probably make this a regular spot from now on. Very reasonable prices and good food with a nice atmosphere away from the hussle and bussle of the park.

OTHER COMMENTS: I didn’t hit Déjà vu because my wife was with me and she doesn’t do coasters and she would have been very bored waiting while I was in a three hour line. It seemed like Déjà vu did run the entire day though.

I heard the Whizzer going down August 1 rumor enough times that I am going to check with my “in the know” contact as to the validity of it.

I find it sad that it took me until June 30 to hit my own home park but with other park trips and a heavy work schedule this was the first chance I have had. I am majorly jealous of Chitown for all the visits he has gotten in thus far.

A quick thanks to CPlaya for the awesome trip report format. I will be using this from now on.

I posted it with the breaks and then they got removed when I hit the submit button. I just edited it. Maybe it has something to do with cutting and pasting from a Word document where I did all my edit checking.

Yeah. I was there 6/29 and 6/30. Got one DV on 6/29 in early morning and the rest of the time it was 3 hrs. :P

V2 had a problem on Fri where it launched and immediately stopped before even getting to the first tower. They kept it going though, after about 15 minutes for maintainance.

I did also feel like Bull was giving better rides in the afternoon. I don't know what the difference was (maybe i was just getting a little more ambitious/greedy with my lap bar) but I felt like it was really going all out later in the afternoon. I'll be at CP either 7/22 or 7/23. Maybe I can bring some impulse luck with me (or maybe your luck will supercede mine and I should just go on 7/22 )

Have you gone to summerfest?

Didn't know you were there! If you saw a guy with an Arrow hat pushing a wheelchair (containing none other than SFGAManiac) that was us! I too had a great day. My TR will be on here as soon as I can link up some pics. Deja Vu ran for us! I couldn't believe it. I heard the Whizzer stuff too (from mechanics to ride ops), and have pretty much given up on it. I will make another trip this year, mostly to pay my last respects to it. Its sad to see the rides you grow up with fade into history.....I must say that I really appreicated the fireman spraying everyone!

Oh, come on...the wait for Deja Vu was *not* three hours. The most I waited for it was 1.5 hours (and yes, I was there on the 30th). The second time I waited for only about an hour. It's not fun to wait that long for it, but it was running so well I didn't care. :-)

ApolloAndy: I wouldnt suggest going to CP when I go. I guarantee that Wicked Twister will not run. It will have some unexplained technical problem for two days and then run flawlessly for the rest of the season. :)

BTW, yes I have been to Summerfest this year although I didnt stay all that long. They just dont seem to have the good bands this year.

coasterdude: Everytime I checked that was the wait time that the ops were giving. Given that my wife doesnt ride, I wasnt going to leave her alone for that long. She has been marvelous in the way she has tollerated my obsession with coasters and I got in quite a few rides on Sunday because of her tollerance. I didnt want to push it. :)

One ride I neglected to review was Iron Wolf. I tried the leaning into the harness trick and I came out more beat up than usual so it didnt really work for me. I am looking forward to CP and Mantis because that is a standup I can ride over and over again and not get hurt.

Your TR cracked me up. I remember you posting about your "impulse issues" a couple weeks ago.

Nice TR! Sorry about V2.

Great TR, I have a trip scheduled on August 1st, maybe i'll witness the fall of Wizzard. That freeken V2 ride better be working or i'll be very ticked off. I must have bad luck also. I also noticed that Bull was running much better in the afternoon. Not that it was bad in the morning, but much more air and speed after about 2. Well hope to see some of you enthusiast there on the 1st.

I tame Raging Bulls!

Just because the posted wait time says 2 1/2 hours when full, doesn't mean that's how long it'll take. Just yesterday we qeued near Farmers Market and got on the ride in an hour or so.

Ozzy: When I went on Fri., we queued just outside the gates, early in the morning and the wait was ~ 1hr., BUT none of the cattle pens were open. It was straight shot. On Sat. afternoon, the queue was outside on the sidewalk AND the shady cattle pen with the 4 or 5 windings was full. I didn't think it would be less than 2 hrs.

Kick the Sky: You should just call ahead and ask if the impulses are running. That's what I'm probably going to do as I have Mon/Tues. for CP/SFWoA. I'll call ahead to both parks and see which impulses are running and try to avoid your bad karma. ;)

Yeah, but they can close during the day due to mechanical issues. That's usually the case with V2.
