SFGAm V2 overheating problem

I was at SFGAm yesterday, and as usual, V2 was having problems again. We decided to wait even though they told us it may be an hour or longer before it was fixed, considering it was so crowded that we'd end up waiting at least that long to ride something else.

While waiting, I was speaking to one of the ride ops and she said that the reason it is constantly out of service is that Intamin won't send them parts until Six Flags pays their debt. However, I mentioned this to a different ride op, and he said it was more of a tech support issue. Take this as you will, as nothing you hear from ride ops is 100% reliable, but all the same it is interesting.

Ok? When I went to SFGAm in July, I NEVER SAW V2 OVERHEAT! What's up with that? If "you" don't want to deal with Vertical Velocity overheating, get to the park early for "the running of the bulls," and I did that, and I got on the second train of operation.
Go on Vertical Velocity in the morning!!! Trust Me!

Yeah, I went last week, and everytime I passed V2 is was broken down. Then when I used my fastpass, I got on the last ride before it broke down again. Too bad for my friends who were on the ride as it broke, they waisted their fast passes. For the time I was there, I saw V2 break down 3 times. And I stayed in the back of the park the most of the day, so who knows how many times it broke down. But the funny thing was that the mechanic that came to fix the ride just took a wrench and started to hit the top of the train with it. As he did it, the gates started to open and close. It was really funny how it looked like the mechanic had no clue what to do...

But serisously, that ride breaks down way too much.
I have yet to be there since it opened that it hasn't "broken down" (overheated). Yes, getting there early is probably a good solution. I was in line for it at 1pm. It broke down around 2pm (right as I was nearing the stairs). They said it was the first time they had problems with it that day.

The other thing that sucks about arriving late is the Fast Lane passes are sold out ! And with long lines and frequent breakdowns with V2, Fast Lane passes are a good thing ! So yeah...get there early. I wish I hadn't stayed up so late on Thursday night, because getting there early on Friday would have made the day much better.

Joe Carroll -
Hey, when I was at SFGAm in July, ever time I was there in the afternoon, "they" closed the fastlane line by 1pm for Vertical Velocity. What's up with that? I think because the line was maybe about 2 hours or more.

StealthmF5m3-
Good question. I've never seen that happen. I didn't spend too much time at SFGAm in July, if at all. I was too busy at Holiday World, King's Island, Cedar Point, Valleyfair! & Worlds of Fun. :) They weren't closing the Fastlane for V2 this past Friday (Aug. 3rd).

Isn't this just kind of expected with launch coasters though?
I could be wrong, but it doesnt seem Superman: Ultimate Escape @ WoA didnt have any problems when I went for 3 days. But it could be because it is a year old and Vertical Velocity is new.

S:UE never had any major problems. She was down for a couple of days awhile ago, but nothing major. I heard that V2 is diff. from S:UE in alot of ways so maybe that was it.

S:UE also never had problems like that her opening year.

Ok, thats not true. I was there a few weeks ago, and I was on the 9th train front row (otherwise it would have been 3rd or sooner). By then, it already broke down. 5th train, the siren goes off... we waited, but my point is, morning does not make you immune.
And another thing, Stealth, nobody cares what your top 5 coasters are. You shouldn't have a top 5 at all, it's wrong to judge coasters! They are all fun! They are all great! They all deserve equal attention!

Trbiggar, why do you care if people have their favorite coasters.

Anyways, I do agree with TrBiggar that riding in the morning doesn't mean that the ride won't break down. It might or it might not, you really never can tell when it's going to happen. It does seem to break down more in the afternoon though(At least all the times I've been there).

Well at least when your V2 is open you get to have the brake at the top of the spike, unlike us here at SFMW. They said there was to much stress on the lock or whatever you like to call it. I asked a ride op. and he said he didd'nt know what I was talking about.
For the millionth time, it's not a brake! :) It's just LIMs firing in reverse.

What's your problem? I like to have a Top 5 and stop telling me what to do. Not all roller coasters are fun. That's my OPINION so don't say anything about it. Period!

With the V2 thing, maybe if you don't wait for the front row you can get on early. The 3rd row is the same thing as the front, but nothing in front of you, WOW!!! What's the point of waiting for the front? Seriously, the 3rd row is like the same thing as the front. When I went on it, I got on the 3rd row and the 2nd train of operation!

Ok, you said I shouldn't have a Top 5 list, maybe you shouldn't have a GODDESS thing. This isn't a religion site. What if someone is offended by this. And you said that I shouldn't judge coasters because "they are all good." Maybe you shouldn't judge the builders of coasters!

Haha. I purposely phrased it "Current favorite coasters" for exactly this reason. "current", because tastes change, and I frequently visit other parks, and "favorite", because they are personal opinions, not definitive "facts".

I knew someone would get huffy with it eventually, if I said they were my "top" or the "best" coasters ! ;)

I must tell you, there is a difference. Anyone who has a brain should know that. No matter where you sit on the train, it is different. Front is absolutely insane. I doubt that 3rd row is anywhere near as good. I've ridden 5th row and front row, so I know what both are like. All I need now is back, but I must say front row would be worth any length of wait rather than even 2nd row. There is nothing like it. Until you've ridden front row, don't ask what the point is. "but nothing in front of you" is the point! That simple. Who cares if your on the 1st train, 2nd train, or 3rd? As long as you get on a train! It is a whole different ride when there is nothing obstructing your view, just like on any inverted coaster anywhere.

And about the other thing, all I will say is if your offended by my mentioning of gods (not a godess) well good for you. Tell someone like Jeff, and if he deems it appropriate, so be it. If he doesn't, I will remove it if he asks me. "Period!"

I have to agree, the front is best. 3 reasons: 1) You experience more of the spiral. 2) You are only feet from the end of the spiral spike, staring at the shock absorber on the end. 3) On the straight spike, you are looking down directly into the pond below. It is worth the wait if you have the time. However it is a risk considering how often it breaks down.

The 2nd and 3rd seat are also very good. They are excellent alternatives if you do not want to wait for the front.

The back seat is also fun, but like the front has a longer line - it's not good enough to justify the wait, but is worth riding now and then just for variety. Also, at the end of the night the line for the back can be pretty short, and offers a great view of the park all lit up.
