sfgam trip on 08/07/01 part 1

Associated parks:
None

To start off, whoever said Tuesdays are the best day to go to the park they were completely right. The parking lot was probably half full. This meant a great day of short lines and lots of open places to get away from the sun.

Rides not operarating:
Power Dive
Deja Vu
Giant Drop

The temperature:
105 degrees with the heat index

First thing we did in the day was to get a fast lane pass. Despite how uncrowded it was, we would thank ourselves later.

Then we were off to Vertical Velocity. I expected a really long line, but we only ended up waiting about 20 minutes. The full que line was not even being used. Just watching V2 in action for the first few runs of the day was a blast. The actual ride itself was incredibly smooth and fast. We were sitting in the second car from the back. I didn't expect to feel any part of the spiral, but suprisingly, I did. Sitting that far back was a big advantage when it stalled. That extra few feet of air seems like miles.

Then we hit Batman the Ride. We only waited about 25 minutes. This ride was pretty much the same as always. I did notice a few spots that seemed a little rougher than usual. But then again, I had prepared myself to over-analyze the older coasters all day long. Still worth riding.

Next was the Iron Balls. I mean Iron Wolf. 10 minute wait. I can honestly say that the head banging was not as bad as last season. Unfortunately, I still haven't figured out how to get myself into the train so that the ride doesn't hurt my crotch. Just a question: Why do riders have to wear shoes on this particular ride? Highlight of this ride was seeing the remnants of Sky Whirl rotting in a parking lot. God I miss the Sky Whirl.

Take note: we have yet to use a fast pass.

Next was Splashwater Falls where we finally decided to use our fast pass. The wait for this ride was about 35 minutes. We waited 5 minutes. Whoo hoo!! It's wet and served it's purpose in cooling us off.

I think we went on the Shockwave next. I have never before felt the head banging that people complain about on this ride. I did today, but I wasn't real clear on the exact spots it occured. Later in the day, I would have an exact idea. Another 10 minute wait. At this point I was shocked at how quickly we were getting on the rides. My girlfriend and I can both now clearly see the exact point where some people black out on that third loop. The dive in between the second and third loop almost seems too steep and I wonder if that's why that third loop does that.

Next was Dino Island 3D. This was the first time I was on a real motion simulator. I always ignored this ride, but it was really fun and air-conditioned. I think this is the most poorly placed ride in the entire park. It seems like it's off in a land of it's own.

"La La La... at the DEMON! Blah blah blah blah at the DEMON! (I swear if I ever have to hear that song again..)
I've said this before, but I really think that Shockwave and Iron Wolf felt smoother, I don't know why, but when i first noticed it, i thought i was lucky, but then the next few times it happened again, and I really enjoyed both the Iron Wolf and Shockwave:)

"Thank you for challenging the Raging Bull-We hope you enjoy the rest of you're day, here at Six Flags Great America"
Has anybody been to SFGAM yet this year when PowerDive was operating, everytime I go there its closed and I go there all the time. I wonder whats going on with that ride.

Don't Fight it, Ride it, RAGING BULL!
I remember someone here in the past saying that maintainance costs were nuts for it.. I don't remember hearing what the exact problem with it was.

pacamania -
Right on with the Shockwave thing. The bottom of the third loop was when 3/4 of my eyes were seeing' black. Extreme HEAD BANGING! Not fun after waiting 1 hour and 30 minutes to ride; since a ride op messed up the transfer track by trying to get another train on in the operation.
