SFGAm, Sun. 09/21, "I hate Coke"!!!!

Associated parks:
None

Well, I don't actually hate the soft drink itself. In fact, it will forever be better than Pepsi IMO.

Anyway, I hated the Coca-Cola company today because they decided to have a corporate picnic at the park. This resulted in the last regular operating day of the season being a complete packed park. The backlot was about half-filled when we pulled up at the toll gates.

We decided to go in anyway. I will say the park was ready for the crowds because everything was open except Logger's Run and the park remained pretty clean.

Oh, I forgot to mention that it was me and my daughter. We ran into Dave (Coasterdude316) and his younger brother. He's the one that mentioned to me about Coke and their picnic. Combine that with the 2 for 1 tickets that were still valid from Jewel, and it looked like a summer day in August.

Decided to hang out with Dave and young bro' and took in some flat rides. We hit Trailblazer, Chubasco, Fiddler's Fling, Condor, and Sky Trek Tower. We also took in 1 coaster being American Eagle backwards.

Took a stroll over by the entrance of the picnic grove and saw on the billboard that "Coca-Cola" was utilizing 8 spots in the grove. That is freaking huge. To compare, the CBCon03 event only utilized 1.

By 6:30 Dave and his bro' wanted to hit Deja-Vu and get in line before the 7 pm close of the park. Said our goodbyes and my daughter and I left for the evening.

While the park being crowded was disappointing, we still had fun playing games, hooking up with Dave and bro', and hitting some flats.

Now I am looking forward to Friday evenings of Fright Fest.

Thanks for reading. :)

Please explain how someone over the age of 16 can enjoy Fiddler's Fling.

Because it's one of the more intense, well-run spinning flats out there???

You are asking Scott if he enjoyed himself? At SFGam? Are you insane? He lives there. ;)

Easy Rob. I havent been there before this trip in 3 weeks. :)

Kevin. It is safe to assume you dont like "Da Fling". As Nate mentioned, its still a very intense ride. For some reason my 32 year old body can still enjoy it. ;)

My 35 year old body cannot enjoy Da Fling anymore. I gave up the ride for Lent three years ago.

You can hate Coke, but leave the Diet Coke alone.

Wow, that explains a lot. We couldn't figure out why the place was *so* packed yesterday.

Oh well, it was still fun. :)

Chitown: 3 Weeks? That's some hard-core deprivation.

Back to the subject of torturous flats. Even in the days of my youth (which I'll roughly define as before college), I could not tolerate "Da Fling". And now I can't tolerate Da Crawler, Da Chubasco, or Da Ricochet either, and Crawler was my favorite ride until I started riding coasters. The trip to Great America was worth it just for that ride alone.

I much perfer Pepsi!!!!!!
And i wasnt aware that Coke had a party at the park, now i dislike them even more(lol)!!!!!!
I knew the picnic pavilion was full and the crowds made for a disappointing day(and just too think two weeks most rides had little waits).

I knew it was a bad day when i was on RB at 1030 and saw that cars were still backed up to get in. After the first 2 hrs most coasters had very long waits as did some flat rides.( i was very happy i was their early as SW territory was pretty slow till noon with GD almost a walk on at noon. Since i dont go to the park on weekends its been a awhile since i ssw the park this busy!!
But for this time of year the weather was great so i cant blame anyone for going to the park to have a good time!!!
Lets hope for good FF weather!!

I went as well. I was wondering what was up with that crowd... I could have sworn I saw you, Chitown. Anywho, another great day at the park. Gorgeous weather, not so gorgeous wait times. I went on a few flats for a change, hit all the coasters except American Eagle, which I heard was running great, and Superman. The highlight of my day was making it in Batman's line right as it closed for the day. I couldn't imagine a day without this perfect inverter, and I almost didn't make it on thanks to a 45 minute wait for V2. Can't wait for Fright Fest. :)

This sig brought to you by Planet Express, providing intergalactic package delivery for aliens and earthlings alike...

I sadly missed Batman when i was there. I was abe to get on the second ride of the day/front row for Superman. And then at SWT was able to ride Viper/RB/GD 3 times each with little wait bu by the time i got to the other side of the park the lines were long!!!!
But just walking around and enjoying the weather made for a great day, the sky tower had a very great view and could see chicago's skyline which was nice as it has been hazy the last few times i rode the tower.
Around noon the crowds really got bad, when I came back from lunch I had to wait in a long line just to park. And then once I got into the parking lot I couldn't even find a parking spot near the back row. This was just before they opened up the overflow lot.

Im drinking Pepsi now...take that coke! :)
