SFGAm July 5

Associated parks:
None

Last year (2000) I went to Great America on July 5 and it had less people than I've ever seen in the 15 times I've been there.

Obviously I wanted to return on July 5 so I could have the short lines again. Unfortunately that wasn't the case!

In the 15 times I've been there I have NEVER and I put emphasis on NEVER have seen it so packed.

The park was full to the Brim and then some! Take Shockwave for example. I've never waited more than 5 minutes for Shockwave. The wait however was 35 minutes. I rode Shockwave. Then we headed towards Vertical Velocity. I rode this once this year and it was the second best rollercoaster I've ridden (Following Apollo's Chariot.)

However, the ride had a malfunction about halfway through the wait. This was the fourth malfunction I had seen on this ride and I've only ridden it twice! So we had to leave the ride. Iron Wolf was next however the line was full and American Eagle was really short so we continued to American Eagle. This was the shortest wait of the day at 10 minutes for the back seat the BEST SEAT! We would have ridden it again but we went to see a show. American Rock was a good show and if you have time, see it!

We would've rode Whizzer, but it was a 45 minute wait so we hadta choose between Raging Bull and Giant Drop. We chose Giant Drop because my riding partner hadn't ridden it before. It turned out that Giant Drop became my partners new favorite ride. We saw Chicago before dropping which was new cause I alway faced the park in my past rides.

By the time we got off of Giant Drop, it was time to eat supper. Since we were in Southwest Territory, we decided to try something new and eat at the Salloon. The buffet was excellent! If you are looking for a place to eat, try the Salloon it's next to Viper's Exit.

It was the end of the day and Vertical Velocity was open again so we headed toward it. We got in line and it broke down again so that was the fifth time I've seen it break down! We headed toward Shockwave, rode that again. And rode Escape To Dino Island it was a great ride! Then we did our family tradition of riding the Red Tower thingie where we saw Chicago and Great America's Firework Spectacular Before leaving the Park.

IT was my worst experience at Great America but the park is still a good one!
How dare you not ride Whizzer!
Oh well, must have sucked with long lines. I hate lines.

i was there on the 5 and the lines were pretty long. and i had to end up waiting 1.5 hours
for vertical velocity because of the break down. But the day was made worth while when we got stuck on the american eagle, but then again who hasn't ;)

Things a bear-y fine, ridin' on the old knott's bear-y line!
I hope the crowds are NOT like what you said SFGAMDie HARD. I hate crowds. Another thing, I REALLY HOPE that V2 doesn't brake down a lot when I visit the park.

Non-holiday weekdays are the key - however, be aware if it is the first nice day, after a string of crappy days, then it will be more crowded.

Yesterday (7/11) was the busiest day I've been there this year, and it was still not bad. The midways were crowded, all the lines looked bad, but in actuality they moved quickly. A good indicator is the parking lot. The lot sorta forms a semicircle, with 2 setions - the inner, and outer. The inner area on the American Eagle side, is usualy used for buses. If the bus area is full (cars or buses), and/or the inner ring is full or almost full, then expect crowds. If the outer ring/bus lots are empty, then the lines should be reasonable.

As for V2 - unless they close it entirely for a few days in a row (unlikely until Deja Vu opens), it will probably NOT be running 100%. If it were that easy to fix, they would have done it by now. Whatever the problem is, it's going to take time to sort out. They are going to have to close it down, or wait until the park goes back to being open only on weekends before they'll have time to really look into the problem(s) and solve them properly (or at least that is my opinion).

Glad you think it sucks, rollercoaster kid. Shorter lines for me! You need to learn that height, speed, and length don't make a fun coaster.

I hope you have fun doing that. It's always an honor to be the first person to see Deja Vu up close for the day ;) My point being, it won't be open in 6 days. Maybe you should try another date, like 7/20/02

TrBiggar and Blink3020: I also agree. Less Whizzer fans=Less Whizzer lines.
