SFGAm 8-7-02, OK Day, Mardi Gras

Associated parks:
None

We got there at 9:30

We went straight to Deja Vu and there was a sign saying "Deja Vu open today at 12-5:00pm." This was odd to me.

Then we went to Whizzer to ride it one more time. I'm going to miss this ride, but can't wait to see what they put in its place! 12/10

Then we got our fastlane.

We then went to Viper but it was still closed, so we decided to go to AE backwards. When we got there it was only running backwards. Forwards did not open till 11 and it was 10:40. One of the best rides I've had on this ride ever. 10/10

We then went to check Viper again. No "semi-assigned seating." Back seat was awesome. 10/10

Then we went to RB Fastlane. Last row. 9/10

Lunch

We went to Iron Wolf and it broke down so we went to V2. We used our fastlane and waited front row. Great Row. 9/10

Next was our longest wait of the day. 1 hour for Batman. This ride gets me dizzy. 8/10

We needed a rest so we went to watch "To Fly." This got me dizzy too. Then we went to the other side of the park and rode Iron Wolf with our fastlane. This ride is rough but I still like it. 7/10

Then AE again. My other friends went forwards since they hate backwards, and My friend and I went on backwards because we love it.

Next we used our last fastlane on RB, Then we went on Viper again. This time was "semi-assigned seating," which I really love! Next was Zajie. That show is really cool.

Then my friends begged me to go on Giant Drop. I have never been on it and I was freaking out before the ride. But when I finnaly went on it, it was weak. This ride is not that good. 6/10

Then Viper at night. Next Raging Bull at night. It was about 9:45, so we decided to get a ride on Demon. Rode is twice to end the day.

By the way, there was a sign in front of Shockwave that said it would not open today. Mardi Gras was no that cool. Just a lot of streamers and characters dressed differently. This day was off to a slow start. Rides either only open at certain times or not open at all which was kind of odd. It was nice weather nice!

V2 can't be compared to any of the rides in SFGAm!The Vertical Drop was amazing!

Sounds like they still haven't fixed the cool weather blues on DejaVu and rather than deal with it valleying they just have it open for limited hours.

FYI for those outside the Chicago area...It's unseasonably cool in Chicago right now - highs in the mid to upper 70's...

Goodbye Whizzer, dear friend. You set me rolling many years ago into this fun hobby...

RIP Whizzer: 1976 - 2002

Shockwave still isn't running?

If you're skating on thin ice, you may as well tap dance.

Yes, and whoo hoo!

I feel mean for saying that.

The movie To Fly... I've seen that about 3 or 4 times at SFGAm. The only reason I keep going back is the A/C. The movie isn't even that good.

I was there too... When the day was over, and we were on the highway, passing the park sign, it flashed "Mardi Gras August 7-11." I looked to one of my friends and said "We were just there... where was Mardi Gras???"

Somebody told me that Shockwave has been down for a few days now. Anybody know why?

Viper: The legend of 1/3 has been confirmed!

I also noticed something strange on Batman: one of the trains didn't have covers on it's wheels. It was nice to see them for once though, but still odd...

Not running Deja Vu in the cooler temps now helps make the 12-5 running time on the 6th and 7th more clear. I saw it running Tuesday afternoon after we checked into the hotel room. We got to the park at 6 pm and it was closed. But it's not like it was THAT cool. It was in the mid to upper 60's in the morning and evenings. How can temps in the mid to upper 60's affect it?

I'd rather die living than live like I'm dead

for DelayJaVu, 60's can be too cool...from what I heard (from the "senior" Lemon Chill guy) is that the grease in the bearings gets too "thick" causing the wheels to slow, which slows the train enough to cause it to valley...

Thanks Great America!

Just so you know, Deja Vu can run in cool temperatures. When I was at Six Flags, it was low 40's and they were running Deja Vu! I believe it was at the B96 private party at SFGAm.

Last year they ran DeJuVu during fright fest so i dont buy the story that its the weather. More likely done to save money at the expense of their guests!!!!
We must have been there on different days during fright fest last year, because both days I went - it was down all day...
