SFGAm 5/11/03 - High Winds = Only Batman open

Associated parks:
None

Well I just got back from SFGAm since they decided to close early today at 5:45p.m.

I got to the park right as the National Anthem was playing and got to Superman first, it was empty. On the way to Superman though we were told it was going to be closed for awhile due to wind. Well awhile turned out to be all day. So right when it turned 10 and they didn't open Superman we headed elsewhere.

Went to Batman first, got on the ride in about 10 minutes. Had a very great ride, it was running great like always.

Went to V2 right afterwards, it broke down right before us and since there were no lines we decided to go around the park and head back there later. So we headed to Iron Wolf, got on in about 10 minutes again. Noticed V2 running again when we got off so went back that way but hit Spacleys on the way which had no line of course. Got back to V2 only to have it break down again right when we got there, it never opened again after that.

So we continued our way around the park to find the Eagle closed, Demon closed, Deja Vu closed(of course still no train), Raging Bull closed, Viper closed, and Whizzer had just reopened so we got a ride on that. But it ended up closing for the day not long after. Iron Wolf then closed, so we were left with Flats, Batman and Spacleys the rest of the day since most the rides never even opened because of the high winds.

We rode every flat except Hometown Fun Machine and Fiddlers Fling, we had a little Rue Le Dodge Marathon going and then rode Batman for the rest of the day until they announced the park was going to close at 5:45 at 5:45 due to weather.

All and all a pretty crappy day, but it just goes to show how reliable Batman is. When all others can't operate Batman can.

You've gotta feel bad for the people that paid full price.

What a lousy day.

Gotta feel bad?

I dont. The weather forecast called for rain and high winds the whole day.

True, but coasters usually operate in the rain. (Lightning and high winds are a diff't story, of cours).

Keep in mind that heavy storms were forecast for Saturday afternoon, and it turned out to be absolutely perfect.

I wonder why Batman was able to run while none of the others could.

I have always seen Batman running when no others are. My guess is it has something to do with the speed and how it never really looses its speed until the end of the ride. I was also there today, just cuz it was a free day for season pass people to bring a friend. was there for about 2 hours, rode every flat and Batman a few times. Since I was with some people who aren't as passionate as I am with coasters, I didnt get to sit on Batman as I would have liked.

One thing I did notice is that the ride ops for Batman weren't letting you sit on the trains even if there was nobody in the rows =(

I'm surprised Viper or Demon or Whizzer couldn't run in the rain. Iron Wolf did reopen at about 5:00 (for the few people that were still left...)
yeah I was over there when Iron Wolf reopened at 5 and rode it front row when it reopened. But I don't think it stayed open that long.

Yeah, Viper is surrounded practically the whole ride by wood. Wouldnt that block the wind?

I think some of the other coasters could have opened, it was just that there wasn't enough people in the park to warrent them to try. Before Batman came to SFGAm, Demon was always the workhorse that would be open in then rain.
