SFGAm, 04/20 (Eagle backwards baby)

Associated parks:
None

Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!! Sorry but I am still trying to thaw out my fingers and face from the cold weather we had today at the park. Temps never hit 50 and the wind would pick up at times. It was extremely cold on the lift hills.

I was invited to attend today for Advocate Health Day. I was excited to go because it got me into the park 2 weeks earlier then opening day. The crowds were average. I was expecting fewer people but it still wasnt bad.

I have said it before and I will say it again, the employees at SFGAm are of top notch. Every employee I encountered was friendly and courteous. The ride-ops were pumping out the trains with minimal stacking and all of the coasters were operating except for one. Can ya guess which one that is? Remember, it was in the 40's today so that clue alone should give it away.

Well on the good things about the park this year.

1. I know its been comfirmed by sources already but I thought you might want to hear it from a park guest. The wall between Hometown Square and County Fair is GONE!!! You cant even tell that a wall was ever there. That upcharge attraction the had in front of it (trampoline type ride) is also gone and nowhere to be found. Alot of guests wanted this wall to disappear and the park listened.

2. Eagle was running backwards!!! Yes, yes, I have been waiting for this for 10 years and it finally came back. We took 2 cycles on the backwards blue and WOW!! what a rush!!! The airtime was great and the trims on the turnaround helix were slightly on so we were hauling booty around the turn. Great experience and from the looks of it, we will be seeing it this way for the whole season because they had alot of signs in and around the ride. All 4 trains (2 red forwards, 2 blue backwards) were running the entire day and at times they were racing them(1 forward, 1 backwards). This should definitely bring some spark and interest back into this once kick-ass woodie. I dont think you guys will be disappointed with this.

Now the not so good.

I think I am now going to officially change the way I think about DV being a coaster and now claim it to be the "DV Monument". Thats right, it is now a statue, a piece of architecture, that you just walk by and gaze at in all of its beauty. Just add some water fountains, park benches, more trees around this blue and green statue and you got yourself a spectacular piece of steel to view.

Alright, I will calm down now but I am just getting sick of this. Temps in the 40's and clear skies should not ground a coaster. I think the park is sick of it to, because they didnt even make an attempt to open it and I dont blame them. Its just to much trouble when you know from the end of last year how much trouble they had with it in the cold. O.K. I am done. Rant over.

Aside from "DV Monument" , all the other scream machines were rolling. Of course the 3 B&M's were cranking out rides all day long (Batman: TR, Iron Wolf, Raging Bull). The 2 Arrows were also quite reliable today(Demon and Shockwave), the Viper was still dishing out great airtime and laterals. Whizzer was pleasing the families as only it can do.

V2 was running today but it was hit and miss. They were having problems with it(dont know what) but they were attempting to keep it running as much as possible. We noticed that the last 2 cars in the back were not being used so that cut an additional 4 people each ride thus slowing the line down even more then it already is from a low capacity ride.

The park also did some cosmetic work to it during the off-season. They have painted the Columbia Carousel and they have black-topped the pavement in alot of places.

As usual this park is clean and comfortable to visit. I am looking forward to this season to officially start even though I got to get a head start this year. Thanks for reading.

Ooops. I forgot to mention a couple of other things I noticed today. The Cajun Cliffhanger is completely gone, station and all. What is there now is a fresh rolled out field of grass. The kiddie rides in Hometown square are also gone. Power Dive is still sitting there collecting dust. O.K. I think that is it (for now):)

Hopefully AE's brakes stay soft all season, they kill the ride. Last season I remember someone came up with the term "Big Green Lawn Ordament," imo it fits the ride better, as a monument has meaning behind it, DV doesn't.

Almost less than 2 weeks until SFGAm opens!

Alright, we will just call it the "DV Statue". Something to just look at. All view and no action. "Deja-Statue-Vu"------------

I am getting so excited! I can not wait till I go to the B96 private party on Friday. How long were the lines for AE backwards?

V2 can't be compared to any of the rides in SFGAm!The Vertical Drop was amazing!

Walk-ons. Most people were either in SW Territory or in Yankee Harbor.

Dude, I laughed out loud when you mentioned the DV Monument. While it sounds better than "ornament," I agree that "ornament" is the more accurate description. But monument sounds better than statue and or ornament, so I'll stick with "monument"

In summary: No DV, and sporadic V2. Sounds like we've come a long way since last season.

Is Bull still smooth?

Yessss! First trip report from my home park! Hopefully Deja Vu will be up and running soon.

"What am I doing?"
"OoooohwhAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!"

Don't bet on it.
If it warms up , it will operate. The weekend before it was in the 70's and they were testing it. It seemed to be running just fine. Unfortunately the temperatures plummeted this last Saturday. They even have a sign in front of the entrance that states "This attraction temporarily closed due to weather conditions".
