SFGAm - 1976

I am making a 1976 Marriott's Great America recreation on RCT2, and I have some questions. Since all of these are about the park itself, I believe it goes in the General Buzz forum.

1. I was looking at some pictures of Turn of the Century, and I saw that one of the trains was yellow. Were all of them yellow ?

2. What color was the Eagle's Flight station?

3. Was there anything in Tidal Wave's spot before it was added (shops, rides, scenery, etc.)

4. Was The Lobster (a.k.a East River Clawer) there when the park opened? I was looking through http://schwarzkopf.coaster.net , and I was looking for the model (SF)Great America had, and I noticed it wasn't around in 1976. But I was searching thorough the ACN forums, and I saw these two pictures http://coasterfreak1630.homestead.com/files/Lobster.jpg and http://coasterfreak1630.homestead.com/files/Lobster2.jpg and they are of an older model of the lobster ride.

5. What color was Orleans' Orbit, I think I remember what it is, but I am not sure.

6. This does not relate to any of the other questions, but why did they remove that centerpiece for Fiddler's Fling this year? It just seems a little odd. Also did Fiddler's Fling alwas go as fast as it does now. it has been going that fast for as long as I remember.

Thanks for answering my questions. I am around 3/4 of the way done with my recreation, I should have it posted in the next week or so.

I'd just love to hear the answer to your fourth question. I've been wondering about that for quite a while. I've seen pictures of The Lobster at the CA park from '76 and it's a Monster II. I think it would be odd for the IL park to start off with a Monster II, then get a Monster III shotrly after. Yet the site says the Monster III was not available in '76. If it was an error on the site, why wouldn't both parks get Monster III's? Does PGA still even have their Monster? I'm really confused abot this and I hope somebody can clear this up.

The took the Fling centerpiece off because it restricted the view of the back of the ride from the operators position. That and it acts like a funnel for rain, siphoning it all down by the brakes and teh electrical contacts.

I think Lobster has always been there, but its been painted a different color.

Dont know about the rest.

at sixflags great america the lobster has been taken down this year

1. I think the trains were the same color they are now.

4. I thought the Lobster was always there.

5. I think the cars were silver.

6. Yes, Fiddler's Fling was always fast.

That's the best I can do. I was only 9 then so I could be wrong.

Wow Sky Whirl Guy! You sure do like Crawler, don't you?
Bump! I want to hear a good response!

Sad isn't it? And I didn't even ride it this year :-(. Man Great America has been taking out some of my favorite rides. As long as they keep Fiddler's Fling, i'll be happy. There was rumors of them relocating it. Have they scrapped it or moved it, or is it still stitting in the employee parking lot.

SkyWhirlGuy, if you look at the picture closely, you can see how there is a gap in the middle of the front, and by looking at the side of the car, meaning the front of the car folded down, just like the moster at Cedar Point, meaning it is not a Schwarzkopf, because all of them have a space on the side for you to get in. So it was probably of a different maker. Also when was the Lobstrer removed? I figured when PGA added the F/X theater in front of Tidal Wave, but then again, I have never been to PGA (sigh). But still the weird fact remains about the lobster's origins.

*Edit* Those Lobster pictures were from PGA in 1991, which means theirs remained a different model that SFGAm has. I seriously thought that was a 1970's pic, lol, oh well.

I have never seen a map of the MGAm in the 1976 season, so if you have could you let me see too. Or E-mail it to me at Holydumb26@yahoo.com please.I want to make a RCT2 Recreation aswell.

I think they took east river crawler down for storage to put up next year. They did that with orbit last season cause they had to repair something I think.

Lol, the funny thing is, neither have I. I have been using a 1982 map off of www.coasterpictures.net (thanks Julie, love your site :)) Mostly it is just knowledge of what wasn't there at the time, and what was, except for it won't be a perfect recreation, but for a recreation from over 25 years ago, it will be pretty close. Except it won't have that awesome trolley, because it looked too tacky :(. But besides that I have been using tons of pictures, and my own memory. But hey if anyone has a 1976 map of MGA feel free to post it, or send it to me :)
