SFGADV, the good, the bad, the powerless

Associated parks:
None

I headed out to SFGADV tonight with the girlfriend unit. About 4pm I was waiting for her to get here and the news came on with breaking news about a power outage. http://abclocal.go.com/wpvi/news/081804_nw_6flagsstuck.html

First we headed to Dolphin Discovery. Love the show its done very well and the animals are pleasent to watch. 9/10

But we went anyways. When we got up there everything seems to be back up and running. Out first ride was Rolling Thunder. My 5th time to the park this year and this was my first ride on it. With the new seats and the belts the ride seems a lot smoother. Ride ops were slow and there was some annoying people in the line. 6/10

Next we headed to Medusa. Waited about 15 mins for the 3rd row. Usual Medusa ride. Quick,Smooth and thrilling. Ride Ops were ok and were being reviewed by a manager at the time of our load. 8/10.

Next we headed over to Superman. On the way there we noticed the Six Flags Playtime Bus. We took a few pics. Next to it I noticed a new Security Station. A little white building with a Guard out front. I though this was kind of cool. Super man had a 1 hour wait we passed.

Next we headed over to Movie Town. We road Spin Mister. First time I rode it. Not that great but you know. Girlfriend unit wanted too. 5/10.

Then we rode the Hymilina thingy. It was ok. 3/10.

After that we headed to the Catwomen Stunt show. It was one of the better shows. I've seen them at SFWOA and SFA. This was by far the best one. However, the sounds were to loud in the arena. The areana is all steel so the sounds fire back of the arena its very very loud. Hurts your ears with some of the explosions. 6/10.

Next we rode the tea cups. Yippppeee! NOT! 5/10

Next we headed over to Nitro the whole Q was filled. On the way there we noticed anther new security booth with a guard in front.

All and all we had a good trip. We are season pass holders and we try to get to the park a few times a month. I can really see SFGADV is making a chance for the better. I really like these security booths all over. Its great have a problem you don't need to walk across the park to get security. The area is kept clean and music playing and almost all rides and food stalls open. I'm really starting to like the park again. Just need to get ride of some of the shady charaters.

Also I noticed the area were the old McDonalds was is now Fenced off on both sides. Its down by the lake front and was a short cut between the lake front and Wild West area. Anyone know whats going on there?

Over all trip 7/10.

Thanks,
DMC

As far as I know SFA is still doing the same old Batman thrill spectacular show they they've had since the 99 season.

I've never actually bothered to go & see it however because I'm too busy on the rides of course.

Since its my home park i'm trying to see and do everything. I recommend seeing the stunt show. It isn't that bad!

Thanks,
DMC

Curious, did you see anyone actually stuck upside down on Chiller? Only reason I ask is, on this link about the same thing, they show pix of Nitro stuck on the MCBR:

http://abclocal.go.com/wabc/news/wabc_081804_rollercoaster.html#

Just wondering if it's more media BS to get ratings. Funny how anytime any coaster gets stuck for any reason anywhere on the circuit, it's always upside down to the media with riders stranded, hanging on for dear life.

It did it again? Didn't The Chiller get stuck upside down last summer as well? This ride needs trashed..
It was stuck in the top brake run. Not upside down. Look at pic number 6 off the link i posted above. *** Edited 8/19/2004 3:01:35 AM UTC by Crashmando***

Forgive me for asking this, but when did Chiller get brakes on the LIM sections of the spikes? If they didn't, there is no way a train could have stopped up there unless there is something I am missing.

I don't post very often but I'm growing tired of hearing things about Chiller. How is it the rides fault that the ENTIRE park lost power? It was going through its course when the power went out. To complete the course in reverse, it must reach the booster LIMS on the spike. If this doesn't happen, the train will not make it back to the station. Also, if the power goes out during a launch, it will not make it through the course for obvious reasons. Without power, LIMS do not work!

Robin was indeed stuck in the barrell roll. Some riders were partially upsidedown while others were sideways. They pulled the train into the lower valley before the spike to unload the passsengers.

I also agree that the park is really really trying hard to change for the better. I'm glad you noticed some of these things and noted them in your report.

Batwingfan, sadly this is the first time in at least 3 years that we even used that arena. Again, another example of things improving. We now have that show, a looney tunes show, the magic show, dolphin discovery, the daytime parade and a VERY decent night time fireworks show. The catwoman show is too loud at times though. Kids can get scared at times.

The bandstand area is a complete mystery. Many feel there are some big surprises in store next season. That is also rumored to be the new location of the Tiger Island show. Expect a total rehab of that entire section before next season begins. They have comletely blocked access to that part of the park.

Your girlfriend has a unit?

My blog You said, "I'm gonna run you down." I heard, "I'm an orangutan."
No she is a robot!

Would that be the tiger island show from sfwoa?
Yes. There is a temporary set up in the Safari right now for that.

check out the coverage of the same event at this link...

Apparently, this ride "runs entirely on electricity, while the other 12 use a combination of electricity and gravity."

"Because of that, the ride stopped dead in its tracks when the power went out."

B&RtC doesn't use gravity? Hmmm. Makes you wonder what the screw up in regular news.

Its funny, Den, I kept thinking the same thing as I was reading that...;)
