I've gone to this park numerous times this year, both during the week and on weekends, but today was easily the most crowded day at Six Flags Great Adventure. I waited fifteen minutes just to pay for parking and ended up at least a ten minute walk from the front gate. As I passed through the gate I see signs for a ticket-to-ride program for Medusa, GASM, Chiller, and B:TR, but by 1 PM all reservations had been given away already.

My friend wanted to hit VIPER first to get it overwith, so we headed that way to find that it was closed. Instead, we saw ROLLING THUNDER had both sides open and racing which doesn't happen often, so after a fifteen minute wait we got a seat in the last car. Now I don't think a wooden roller coaster is actually designed to fall off the track, but this one came close. Fortunately it kept its speed through the bunny hops for a little bit of air, but those unbanked 180 degree turns cause an extremely annoying screech.

While climbing the lift hill we saw VIPER trains testing on the track, so after we exited RT we headed next door where we found that only 2 people were ahead of us. We took the last row because apparently the longest straight drop in the park is on this ride (I've heard rumors that this will change next year with a hyper). After pulling those annoying shoulder harnesses down really tight, the sometimes painful ride lived up to its billing. Being suspended upside down through its first inversion, the shoulders apparently absorbed all of my weigh pretty forcefully. If Viper can get new OTS restraints, it has the potential to be a decent coaster. When we exited the ride, the line for Viper had over a hundred people on it. Not bad for being open for all of 5 or 6 minutes!

Next, as we were headed to the MEDUSA line, as a train barrelled through the zero-g roll, a roll of Starburst candy flew out and hit the top of the photo booth for the ride, ricocheting off and landing in Robin for the first time, so we finally trekked over to the GASM.

This was the most unbelievable sight I have seen this year at this park. This being my forst year on roller coasters, I had heard of the Scream Machine, so I figured it was a popular ride. In all of my trips here all season (at least ten), the longest wait for the Arrow looper was maybe 5 minutes. usually it was a walk-on, and at most a 3 car wait for the first row. Well, let me tell you, the line for the GASM today went about 15 minutes past the start of the queue (with the entire line open). This 11 year old ride which has a popularity next to nothing nowadays (5 new coasters since then) had a wait of over 2 hours! I could not believe this. Only 2 trains were running, but that is no excuse. I would rather wait half as long for Medusa than wait 2 hrs. for GASM anyday, but apparently not everyone thinks the way I do.

Oh well. I'll come back another day for GASM as well as Skull Mountain. But although the crowds were in full force, I realized that what I went on in 7 hours most parks don't even have, despite missing world class coasters. The park pretty much has everything right now since their expansion in 99. Maybe a good woodie or a stand-up is needed? A Hyper is a rumor for next year and that would be nice, but overall I can't complain, and I'll be sure to return on a less crowded day. *** This post was edited by reyordonezfan on 8/18/2000. ***
They have TTR at this park? That sucks.

"DONT FIGHT IT, RIDE IT",,,,RAGING BULL
I just went yesterday(Sat.19),and I was lucky to
get those ride reservation tickets.
4=Medusa,Chiller,Batman The Ride, and Great American Scream Machine.I could not believe you got all four, not just pick one/take what was left.
I was SOOOOOO glad I had these because Medusa was
the usual 1 1/2 hours,BTR was long and so on down the line ,Pendulum 45 min.,20 min.for the scrambler. And the Spin Meister was being worked on :(,Evolution was not open (I was there 7 times in 99' and it opened once in early June),never saw Spinnaker (octopus/polyup)open in two years.
VIPER I wish they could give some Rx tothe otsh.
You come down the first drop and rise to a sharp curve to the left and go up- this takes your neck off!(others exiting the ride have the same complaint). And when you twist upside down I
moved/fell to the right which had me concerened
cause I should not move that much.I would love to hear in our wildest dreams that they are going to
expand or put in a new longer coaster. Those to me
are just rumors.I believe they might be looking into Rx for the restraints.VIPER is the only ride
they seem to be serious about phones and(They
said)beepers in pockets.I might have missed other
rides ...,but it really stood out to me here.
HAS ANYBODY SEEN THE LOOPING STARSHIP OPEN IN 2000? I was there in April and they still had some
blue tarp over it .Yesterday it was closed for the day,and walking in the exit I saw blue tarp tied to the fence where the op stands next to the line
ques.I came up with this idea it was protection for the op from the sun and they take it down when
they aren't there.:(:(:( I think something is wrong with the LSS:( :(
Yea, what is with some of the flat rides that are never open. I've been on Evolution once, and that was the only time I've seen it open. The spinnaker has never been open. Time Warp only runs one side most of the time. The Space Shuttle has been closed. What was the point of Evolution and Spinnaker if they are never going to run them?!?!?!?!
