Wow... you're telling me. I guess back in those days, they built the coaster first, and then painted it.

From what I remember, it was always black.
Judging from the photo... and very NOT surprisingly... the Pirate, Bumper Cars, & Tin Lizzies are still there. What just seems weird is how flat everything looks. I know the joint is out in the sticks and this is taken in the early spring, but I think the rides added in recent time helped add a little elevation (despite their being none).

Thanks Jeff, that is a very interesting photo i would have never imagined SFDL looked like that.

I have been visting the park for as long as i remember (I'am 26 years old) and have never seen the park in that way. Interesting.....

Your Park only has 1 good coaster! That's too bad!

Okay, this may be odd... but I always like looking at old photos (and construction photos) of parks that I have visited... even more so than the current photos.

Kind of hard to take a post as objective if a park or coaster name is part of the "user name"

Interesting. I'm not used to seeing steel coasters unpainted during the construction process, although if I remember correctly, there are photos of SFOT's Batman being unpainted while it was constructed.

What a great shot. You sure it wasn't intended to be rust colored when they first built it, and perhaps it was painted black a couple years later? I never thought steel coasters were painted after construction, even back then.

Arrow coasters has to be painted to some degree, even if touched up. The things were totally welded together, both at track joints and to the supports.

The most striking thing to me about that photos is how much the trees all over the park have filled in.

Thanks that picture is weird, it amazing what Premier Parks (I didn't say SF) did after that.

I go to the point each year to have their new coaster break down, thats my life. Dragster and WT may have been closed, but MF is always there to fulfill my thrill needs

Thanks for the picture, Viper, and Darien Lake are very high on my "to do" list. The recent pictures I've seen make the park look beautiful.

The cool thing is, is how I took a recent on-ride photo in almost that exact position as I was ascending the lift-hill... and it definately has to be the trees... I knew there was something about the old photo that just didn't have any "volume" to it... that explains why everything looks so flat.

Shows what you can do to a big-ass piece of flat farm land in a couple of decades.

I can't look at it! It just says THIS IMAGE CAN ONLY BE VIEWED ON COASTERBUZZ.COM uh... Aren't I on coasterbuzz! And now I can't watch this video I just downloaded! What a reterded comp I have!!!
