SF:Astroworld - What can be said.

Associated parks:
None

It's pointless to beat a dead horse here but what can I say about SF:AW but...it sucked. We drove from Austin for the day to go since we have never been. The park looks run down and the rides need a serious paint job. Operation of the coasters was even worse. XLR-8, Serial Thriller, Viper all were running single trains. The lines were at least 90 minutes. Batman The Escape was so rough, it wasn't even fun. Ultra Twister was running half the vehicles and the line didn't seem to move. We gave up after about 3 hours and went home without finishing the rides. All this and ridiculous heat and humidity. Not running the rides to capacity bothered me the most. It's a weekend, why not run them? If you have to drive more than 30 minutes, even with a season pass (and I have one), this park is not worth it.
Agreed, SFAW does suck. I made the trip during spring break over a year ago and we ran into the same operations problems. In fact, XLR-8, Viper, Ultra Twister, and Taz's Texas Tornado (not sure if that's actually the name but you know the coaster) were all closed for the day. We assumed it was because of spring break being so early in the season but I guess such ops problems are normal there. I must say that I was still glad I made the trip (we hit the other two TX parks in the same stretch) but I was very disappointed -- more so than with SFKK and that's saying a lot. That park needs some serious work. Would I go again? NO!!!

Now I'm glad I didn't go when I was in Houston for a family reunion.

Steel: 1)MF, 2)Goliath, 3)Magnum
Wood: 1)Villain, 2)Beast, 3)Roar(SFMW)

...and I'm glad that I decided that SFFT would be a better park a few years ago. Frankly, I only went for Superman, but it was an overall beautiful park, with some great rides.

If you're going to Houston, drive another hour or so to San Antonio. (Not sure how long it actually is.) Incredible difference in quality.

3 hours. That must suck.

It's sad to hear that Texas Tornado never seems to run. It looks like a Schwartzkopf masterpiece; maybe even better than Mindbender. Has anyone actually ridden it?

Also, you didn't mention it in your TR, but did you ride Greezed Lightning? That was my favorite ride at AW, but it's been awhile since i went there.

Hope this park gets some good rides soon!

Yeah, we rode Greezed Lightning. It was pretty cool. I love launched rollercoasters.

Wow those rides were closed during your visit? Those would probably be the only reason why I would even CONSIDER going there! Aw that must have blown big time!

Yeah, I was more than a little peeved. My friends had ridden the Tornado the year before and had talked up the intensity and near-blackout G's in the loops (and the fact that the track "jumps" off the ground at least a foot on some parts -- I love that) so that was my most anticipated ride at SFAW. They said Ultra Twister was lame but there's not too many of those around and I wanted to ride one just to check it out. I would go back but their operations is so horrible that I'd be afraid to plunk down the days and dollars for the trip only to find the rides SBNO again.
