SFA and Superman, 4th of July

Well today marked exactly one year that I last went to SFA. I went
July 5th last year and sense this is a leap year July 4th made it 365
days. I went 5 times last year and by July I was fed up with SFA and
its poor operation. This year I waited until Superman was open for
sure before I would go.
So some friends and I arrived at 10:30am and we walked up and
showed our passes and got in. (something I have noticed about
Premier Parks, they don't check season passes or scan them, last year
they didnt ever scan their own pass. This year I have a SFKK pass
and they just looked at it and waved me in, Bob had a SFNE pass and
they did the same thing. So we went in and made our way back to
Gotham where we met up with some more friends and got in line for
Superman, which was down at the time. The red train was parked on
the bottom of the lift and the blue train behind the station. One of our
friends went to the front of the line to ask an estimated time and got
the typical theme park reply, we dont know. We stood there close to
30 mins as trains rumbled by on an almost empty Jokers Jinx. Finally
the red train on Superman started going up the lift and they ran a few
more test trains for about 10 mins and opened the ride. I have not
been on any other Superman coaster or another Intamin hyper or giga
so I was kinda excited. I liked the look of the trains and the low riding
they provided. The station was poorly built compared to the ones I
have seen pictures of at SFNE and SFDL. They had decent station
designs and buildings, this one was really unattractive. It was also
very small, when we got in the station we saw some major flaws. The
line comes our RIGHT at the line for the very back row. So people
stand there while waiting for the back seat and end up blocking
others. or 3 cars are still flat on the run out. I think its speeding up with the
weight of most of the train, but all of a sudden its got the weight of 2
or 3 more cars on it and it cant handle it. IF the chain would speed up
AFTER the whole train is on the lift and attached to the chain, I think
that would relieve some tension. I blame that on Intamin, but the park
can fix that with setting up the sensors differently. BUT, this is all just
an opinion with observations I have made and I could be completely
wrong. But, it makes sense to me. So now we are climbing up a very
steep lift a a decent rate of speed. Once we crested we enter what
was one of the best first drops I have ever been on, maybe even the
best. The drop gets steeper and steeper and STEEPER and then one
last time STEEPER ! It had a WONDERFUL first drop, the bottom had a
very good turn to the right, it was directly on the ground which
enhanced speed and then shot up into a really good 2nd hill, it had
decent airtime, then dived down and into the first of three sections I
didnt like. A long, LONG, LONG section of flat track. It did keep up its
speed though, but I dont like flat track. Then it entered the large
downward helix, this was fast and fun, but lacked hills. I mean, I know
its meant to be a flat helix, but I want hills, moreso at that speed.
Then it entered the 2nd of the LONG flat sections then entered the
3rd hill, this was LOADED with negative Gs. Then dove down into the
last of the LONG sections of flat track, then entered the upward helix,
unbelievably it has keep ALL its speed. After the helix it enters what I
call a "GCI" rabbit hop. It climbs while twisting one way, has airtime
then dives the opposite direction. Then it enters two straight rabbit
hops loaded with air and dives into a very smooth brake run. It used

announcement was made. (sigh) Then they made another
announcment we couldnt believe, this came from the person at the
controls. "Sorry, we are unable to run this coaster because of a
problem with another ride and we need the track." Don't ask me, I
dont know and neither did the other people in my group. After about
15 mins the finally decided to let us ride. The Wild One is so poor
compared to what it used to be before they reprofiled it. I really just
dont care for it anymore, it used to be fun. Now its just ride to cause
a line for other people to be in while I ride other things. Its slow and
just boring. I feel that way about a lot of out and backs though, this
one just happened to be better at one time (in my opinion) and now
that makes it worse in my book.
Next, over to Roar, this used to be a top five ride, not now. Its slow
and the trians are in horrible shape. They are falling apart, shaking
themselves apart and just not running well. I think Roar is a
WONDERFUL design, but give it to a park with a horrible maintenance
staff that cant take care of it and you get a ride that should be
renamed "Snore" or "Bore". It really didnt have much feeling at all.
They put up a new sign that looked nice in front of it. But I wish it ran
like it did in its opening year, 1998. After that is when we headed
back to Gotham and got a ride on Jokers Jinx. Last year I HATED it,
this year it was more enjoyable. The pads I hated were replaced since
the last time I rode it and it was easier on the head. I still like OL FOF
better at PKD, I like the themeing and I like it indoors (that design is
just plain ugly and needs to be hidden). I also like the midcourse brake
in OL FOF, it makes the rest of the ride slower which is easier on the
head. back this year. The price to get in is $34.99 I think. Eight to park and
35 for one to get in for that park is crazy.
As I said, some improvements were made, but I need to see it more
often for it to change my mind on those things. But the operation is
still the worst of any park I have been too. I "may" return one more
time this year to get Janis on Superman (she had to work today).
Other than that, I won't be back until next year, IF they add
anything.

July 5th last year and sense this is a leap year July 4th made it 365
days. I went 5 times last year and by July I was fed up with SFA and
its poor operation. This year I waited until Superman was open for
sure before I would go.
So some friends and I arrived at 10:30am and we walked up and
showed our passes and got in. (something I have noticed about
Premier Parks, they don't check season passes or scan them, last year
they didnt ever scan their own pass. This year I have a SFKK pass
and they just looked at it and waved me in, Bob had a SFNE pass and
they did the same thing. So we went in and made our way back to
Gotham where we met up with some more friends and got in line for
Superman, which was down at the time. The red train was parked on
the bottom of the lift and the blue train behind the station. One of our
friends went to the front of the line to ask an estimated time and got
the typical theme park reply, we dont know. We stood there close to
30 mins as trains rumbled by on an almost empty Jokers Jinx. Finally
the red train on Superman started going up the lift and they ran a few
more test trains for about 10 mins and opened the ride. I have not
been on any other Superman coaster or another Intamin hyper or giga
so I was kinda excited. I liked the look of the trains and the low riding
they provided. The station was poorly built compared to the ones I
have seen pictures of at SFNE and SFDL. They had decent station
designs and buildings, this one was really unattractive. It was also
very small, when we got in the station we saw some major flaws. The
line comes our RIGHT at the line for the very back row. So people
stand there while waiting for the back seat and end up blocking
others. or 3 cars are still flat on the run out. I think its speeding up with the
weight of most of the train, but all of a sudden its got the weight of 2
or 3 more cars on it and it cant handle it. IF the chain would speed up
AFTER the whole train is on the lift and attached to the chain, I think
that would relieve some tension. I blame that on Intamin, but the park
can fix that with setting up the sensors differently. BUT, this is all just
an opinion with observations I have made and I could be completely
wrong. But, it makes sense to me. So now we are climbing up a very
steep lift a a decent rate of speed. Once we crested we enter what
was one of the best first drops I have ever been on, maybe even the
best. The drop gets steeper and steeper and STEEPER and then one
last time STEEPER ! It had a WONDERFUL first drop, the bottom had a
very good turn to the right, it was directly on the ground which
enhanced speed and then shot up into a really good 2nd hill, it had
decent airtime, then dived down and into the first of three sections I
didnt like. A long, LONG, LONG section of flat track. It did keep up its
speed though, but I dont like flat track. Then it entered the large
downward helix, this was fast and fun, but lacked hills. I mean, I know
its meant to be a flat helix, but I want hills, moreso at that speed.
Then it entered the 2nd of the LONG flat sections then entered the
3rd hill, this was LOADED with negative Gs. Then dove down into the
last of the LONG sections of flat track, then entered the upward helix,
unbelievably it has keep ALL its speed. After the helix it enters what I
call a "GCI" rabbit hop. It climbs while twisting one way, has airtime
then dives the opposite direction. Then it enters two straight rabbit
hops loaded with air and dives into a very smooth brake run. It used

announcement was made. (sigh) Then they made another
announcment we couldnt believe, this came from the person at the
controls. "Sorry, we are unable to run this coaster because of a
problem with another ride and we need the track." Don't ask me, I
dont know and neither did the other people in my group. After about
15 mins the finally decided to let us ride. The Wild One is so poor
compared to what it used to be before they reprofiled it. I really just
dont care for it anymore, it used to be fun. Now its just ride to cause
a line for other people to be in while I ride other things. Its slow and
just boring. I feel that way about a lot of out and backs though, this
one just happened to be better at one time (in my opinion) and now
that makes it worse in my book.
Next, over to Roar, this used to be a top five ride, not now. Its slow
and the trians are in horrible shape. They are falling apart, shaking
themselves apart and just not running well. I think Roar is a
WONDERFUL design, but give it to a park with a horrible maintenance
staff that cant take care of it and you get a ride that should be
renamed "Snore" or "Bore". It really didnt have much feeling at all.
They put up a new sign that looked nice in front of it. But I wish it ran
like it did in its opening year, 1998. After that is when we headed
back to Gotham and got a ride on Jokers Jinx. Last year I HATED it,
this year it was more enjoyable. The pads I hated were replaced since
the last time I rode it and it was easier on the head. I still like OL FOF
better at PKD, I like the themeing and I like it indoors (that design is
just plain ugly and needs to be hidden). I also like the midcourse brake
in OL FOF, it makes the rest of the ride slower which is easier on the
head. back this year. The price to get in is $34.99 I think. Eight to park and
35 for one to get in for that park is crazy.
As I said, some improvements were made, but I need to see it more
often for it to change my mind on those things. But the operation is
still the worst of any park I have been too. I "may" return one more
time this year to get Janis on Superman (she had to work today).
Other than that, I won't be back until next year, IF they add
anything.

The station is ugly, but one step better and worse than its mirror at Six Flags Darien Lake. The good thing is that there is more room between the track and the back of the station. The bad thing is that they decided to put a few queue rows up there. Why most parks continue to queue people on the platform is beyond me.
Since I only got to ride up the first 140 feet, I was disappointed I didn't get to experience that low turn along the ground. I knew what to expect with the rest since it was like the SFDL model, but bummed I didn't get that first turn.

I was to SFA later that day. Stupidman was running 2 trains but with the 2 empty cars. as we walked up the steps to the station the first break down happened. I took about 30 minutes or so an it was back up and running. Then we moved up to next to board and it went down again. They took off the second train and ran a few test runs. After the train left the station we would smell a hot burning smell. The one motor thats hooked to a tire to dispatch the train from the station was smoking. They ran it anyway. We were at SFA for 4 hours and got 3 rides Stupidman, Mild One, and Bore. At another park Wild One and Roar would have been a 10 minute wait with 2 trains not here each was at least a half hour. SFA needs to do a lot of improving before I return again this season. I actually think you could show an outdated Six Fags pass or a pass from another chain and get in free. I also set off the metal detector and they didn't even check me. D.C. has one of the highest murder rates in the country and they don't even check to see if you have a weapon? I know I won't be back again this year. I was there earlier in the season and SFA wasn't crowed walk ons on everything even Superman and it was actually enjoyable. When you add a crowd the park is just HORRIBLE.

I dont know, Maybe I've been lucky, but the 3 times I have been there this year, it hasn't been that bad. However, it is a SEVERE step down from my former home park SF GREAT america. I think they need to train the ride ops a little better. Moreover, they need to have spot checks. I did notice more than a few of the ops flirting w/ each other more than operating the rides. And with the Wild One, this woodie has fared a lot better than the American Eagle at SFGAm (I'm talking total vasectomy). At least W-O still has the good ending helix. This park just wasnt ready for the Six Flgs name. If it wasn't for the cheap season pass (so I could go to SFGAm & SFGAdv) I might not go to this park. Admittedly S:ROS is my #1 and Two Face is cool, but if they cant keep them running then wtf! I can only take *so* many pictures. Apparently I need to vist SFA more often, as everytime I have visited with one exception I have had only good luck, with the excepetion again of Two Face. I find the park to be fairly well run, clean and with lots more shade than some other parks. I also have had only good employes who are not rude in the least. Wild One still features a killer tunnel and some good air on the third hill. Roar does need grease, but it still runs well. If anyone ever wnats to eat at the park, go to the Cayote Creek saloon and have a crab cake sandwich and thank me later.

It sounds like it is an exact clone of SFDL's Superman!!! That is terrible, it is a good ride, and shouls be exclusive to one park. Can't SF shell out a little bit more money for orginal designs? Shheeesh! It just sounds like the turn on the ground is in the other direction!!!

Shade? Are you kidding? Outside of the entrance midway I found myself baking in the 92-degree heat. Gotham City is the worst offender by far. I've never been to a park that open and desolate looking.

Yeah the gotham city part of the park absolutly blows! Especially with the alpine bobs themed to the penguin. First off, you cant tell that is has a theme unless you look at the *tiny* half hidden, not even permanent sign. And in that little section, the only shade is either sitting at a games table or in the queue for Joker's Jinx. However, the areas around Mind Eraser and Roar have a fair amount of shade. This park DOES have a lot of growing up to do, but with that in mind, I dont even try to compare it to like SFMM. One question though (really two) why is Two-Face so far from Gotham city? And are all of their new coasters gonna have a DC comics theme? (that would absolutely suck!)
It's SFA it would make too much sense to put Two Faced in the Gotham City area where it belongs. I didn't see any shade there except for the stations of the coasters. I really think it's one of the worst parks I've ever been to. "What this park needs is an enima", the Joker.

Two Face is where it is because that is where the old Python shttle coaster used to be and they wanted to use the space for something high thrill and small footprint. Also, is it suddenly rag on SFA time? Am I the only one here who likes the park for what it is and doesn't try to compare it to parks that are in another level of Six Flags? I was there yesterday and I had a great time. I got a Roar ride, two JJ rides in a row, a superman ride(fromt car, second row) and a Krypton Comet ride in two hours. Just try the park on a weekday when it is below 90 degrees and you will be fine, otherwise, grin and bear it, atleast your at a amusement park and not at work.

I was there on a Monday once. I think Memorial day to be exact and I did like SFA. ROS was a two train wait for back seat. Everything else was walk on as well. When they don't have a crowd it's a good park. A park should be good even when there are crowds like (Cedar Point, PKI, PKD, and Hershey). What is the point of going to a park when they can't dispatch a train on Roar, or Wild One in under 5 minutes with 2 people checking restraints. That is either lack of training or just not caring about their job. I think parks should have staff that takes pride in their work (Holiday World, Knoebels, Lake Compounce). Most SFA employees don't have that. Staff additude make a lot of differance to me in a park.

Wild One: I point out the park for what it is. If there are bad things about it, I'll mention them. If there are good things, I'll mention them as well. I typically have a good time there by myself. For instance, I went last Friday (7/8) got 4 rides on S:ROS, 3 on Roar, 2 on Two-Face, 1 on Mind Eraser, 1 on Joker's Jinx and 1 on Wild One. All in about 6 hours. But I think that it is fair to compare it to other Six Flags parks, because that's what it is. I would never compare it to Knobels because that it a whole 'nother animal. But if the want to bill themselves as a world class park, then they need to be prepared to meet the standards that those parks are held to. With that being said I'll likely be there later this week....hehehehe
p.s. Why name it two-face though? While I do like the name for the ride, with the placement, I think another name should have been used. Just my opinion though.. *** This post was edited by 2Hostyl on 7/10/2000. ***
