SFA 2005 webpage hint...

Six Flags Astroworld used to charge seperate admission to Six Flags Waterworld. But in 2002 the two parks were combined into one ticket. There are only 5 Six Flags branded waterparks that charge seperate admission and they are at the big parks in the chain. *** Edited 10/10/2004 4:58:59 PM UTC by SFZIP***
What time did you see a rollback on JJ? I never saw it probably because I was in a different area but every time I went by the ride it appeard to function normally.

You never know, they just might get more rather than less, after all they're only the 3rd park in the chain so far to at least give hints of something coming in 05 & we all know how SFI is with their capital expenditure budgets by now don't we?

Of course we won't know much of anything for sure on it until the public hearing & later the official press release.

The rollback occurred at 2:57. (I looked at my watch.) My daughter and I were walking back to SROS when it happened. The train came out of the tunnel made it most of the way up the first hill, then rolled back and stopped with part of the train in the tunnel and part out. Maintenance was on the scene when we walked by againg about 15 minutes later.

Of course, I thought, "Darn I wish I'd been on that train."

Well, that's probably part of the reason they don't usually run it during Fright Fest. I've heard several sources say that it has lots of problems running in the cold. Anyone know for sure?

More importantly, did anyone get the date of when the SFA 2005 project will be discussed at the planning board meeting? The planning board website has yet to update since their meeting on the 8th, but I'm guessing that since the park has the notice in front of the park and all, you should see SFA pop up on the "upcoming agendas" list. Once the date gets closer, pretty much EVERYTHING that SFA has subbmitted should show up online and we should have a pretty good idea of what we're getting, even before the official announcement, which I'm guessing will come soon after the project is approved. I remember when they proposed Batwing. There was about a 15 page proposal by the park that covered everything from noise levels, to light levels, to environmental impact, to generalities about the ride. However, there was nothing about the layout of the ride or it's name. If they're significantly altering the layout of the waterpark, or even moving it, I'm guessing we could at least see a site plan though. Should be good!

If you can't stand the heights, get out of the line.

The hearing should take place the week of the 21st although I'm not entirely sure as I didn't get a good look at the date as we were already making the turn into the lot.

The board meets every thursday so that would indeed put it at the 21st,for some reason I can never get the long range agenda to load lately so I'll just have to check the site this friday to see if it's updated for the following week's agenda.

Did anyone visit the park today & if so did any of you see the sign in question?

I drove by the park today and got the meeting information. November 4th at 9:00. Unfortunately, I have other plans and willn't be able to make it. The long range agenda is posted through 11/4 but SFA has made the long range agenda yet, unless they are undercover ;)

Did you happen to get the project Number?

If this is in need of a hearing, it very well may be a LARGE SCALE PROJECT. A full scale Hurricane Harbor will make the park more attractive. It may possibly become a huge hit, the current waterpark (as mediocre as it is) is hugely popular.

Ya see! That fence indeed may be for ride parts (for a waterpark)

SAM

Sam, the sign in front of the park has the following information...

HEARING Planning Board
Type: Specific Design Plan
Application #: SDP-9802/07
Request: Community Building
Date: 11/3/04
Time: 9:00 am
Place: County Administration Building Upper Malboro, MD

Hope that helps...

Community building? that doesn't sound like anything park related to me unless a waterpark falls under that general definition.

No matter how SFA & SF in general would want to remain "covert" on any future project a public hearing on the matter is just that "public" so they can't really hide it no matter how hard they'd like to,plus with the hints on the official site it's pretty clear what their intentions for the upcoming season are.

Sam's right about the current popularity of PI though & HH will be even better which in turn will mean fewer people in front of us in line for supes & Batwing next year,I just thought of something which may hinder operations however....as we all know SFMM can't run Flashback when HH is open due to that ride's close proximity to HH,I hope that the same thing doesn't happen with supes if SFA does indeed relocate HH to the back of the property as rumored.

I just thought of something they should've done for FF this year: in honor of PI's demise/renovation they should've held a final walk through or some graveyard theming over there, that would've been a pretty good way to honor PI for over 20 seasons of service don't you agree?

Could "Community Building" mean "building within the community"?

I really doubt that a seasonal park would do something like MM does with Flashback

Is that why Flashback is always down?
Here is a picture of the sign Coaster Lover is refering to (snapped yesterday as I entered the park):

I have a feeling that this hearing isn't about the waterpark.

That's the sign I'm reffering to.

We'll find out just what it's about once november 4th rolls around, given the hints on the official site we've already got a good idea on what's in store for 05,although maybe it'll just be a water ride themed around a hurricane who knows?

Now maybe the applicant placed the sign in front of the park entrance knowing that alot of people would see it as they drive by so it could be for something that has nothing to do with the park at all....then again wouldn't that be considered part of SFA's proerty? & if it is then I'd assume said applicant might need consent from the park prior to placing such a sign there.

Well folks... I e-mailed the P.G. County Planning Board earlier this morning and this is the response I got:

"the application you are referring to is the community building and parking at the Cameron Grove development. It has nothing to do with Six Flags. The case file is available for public inspection. " *** Edited 10/11/2004 5:41:44 PM UTC by coasterguts***

Didn't you all say the sign was right in front of the park enterance though? Seems strange that they would put the sign there if it "has nothing to do with SFA"...

However, the good news is that if it really doesn't have anything to do with SFA, we could easily be hearing an announcement before Nov 4th.. *** Edited 10/11/2004 5:53:21 PM UTC by Coaster Lover***

Yep! It's in front of Six Flags America on the SFA Side of 214. I replied to her and said the location of the sign is going to cause confusion. We'll see if they move it or not. *** Edited 10/11/2004 5:59:21 PM UTC by coasterguts***
Thanks for going the extra mile for us Coasterguts....it sure saved most of us a lot of effort at trying to look it up on the planning board website.

The sign was probably placed there so that people would really take notice, alot of folks probably take a passing glance at the SFA sign for whatever reason whenever they pass through that intersection.

So we're now back to square one as far as any official word from either the park or the county but I'm sure we'll find out soon enough though,SFA is bound to spill the beans sooner or later & hopefully it'll be sooner rather than later.

Well, I don't think they'd leave a teaser up for over a month without revealing something...My guess is you'll hear something by mid-November. The next step might be to look for hints in the park. I mean there's still three more weekends of Fright Fest, they could easily put signs up on the gate to Paridise Island with some of the same hints on the website or possibly even an announcement date. Look around the ticket booths or guest relations too. All possible locations you could see hints.

Of course the biggest hint would be physical construction or the arrival or slide parts, but I'm guessing we might not see that until the park closes. Of course if we see the construction before the park closes, it's a good indication it's a big project.

Just keep watching out for the signs and hints, it's really unusual for SFA to be even giving hints at anything this early so things could be big...

For compariative reasons...here are the dates of the last several major SFA press releases...

Penguin's Blizzard River- February 12, 2002
Batwing- February 15, 2001
Superman- March 15, 2000
SFA conversion- October 28, 1998

Just thought it interesting that the last major announcement that SFA made as early as October was when it converted to a SF park...;) *** Edited 10/11/2004 6:44:20 PM UTC by Coaster Lover***
