Xcelerator update from Knotts website:

Xcelerator will be down now through December 18. They didn't say what year... Great

I was at Knotts today, and looked at the forlorn Xcelerator. Only 1 train on the track. The launch cable is loose on the ground, and nobody anywhere near it! Even the birds are roosting in the "top hat." I was terribly depressed...

Nothing is being done because they probably can't. I'd say that the incident is still under investigation by the state, which means that Knotts cannot touch it without one of the state inspectors being there.

Just got off the Knott's website and now Xcelerator is down until 1/31/10. Oh boy... Not sure what Mr. Xcelerator (Richard) is doing with his free time. Good thing he hit the 30,000 ride level before the accident.

Why? Would the world have ended if he didn't? Is that part of one of the 2012 chaos scenarios? ;)

A retired gentleman who (i believe) rides his bicycle to the park regularly. I'm not sure if he rides much besides Xcelerator.

It's sad that such a bad thing could happen to a seemingly well-kept ride. Hopefully the twelve-year-old boy is doing alright now. I wonder if the father took/is going to take legal action against the park or not. I can't imagine why he wouldn't.

I sometimes wonder how the kid and his dad are doing now also, ahank. I watched and rewatched the video, because of a morbid curiosity, I suppose. It's hard to imagine what those two were going through when that happened, but the facial expressions caught on video tell a lot. I feel really bad for the both of them; the kid for being traumatized, and the father for feeling helpless when he is trying so hard to take care of his son.

I bet that their was a moment (or several) somewhere during that indecent where each one of them thought that their life or their loved one's life was in danger. Too scary, even for me.

Far be it from me to quesition what others do with their free time, but I can't imagine getting any enjoyment out of something that I've done 30,000 times in the last 7 years. Seems more like addiction than enjoyment.
