Second annual Blue Streak Challenge set for July

Posted | Contributed by KellyL

On Monday, July 29, 2002, Conneaut Lake Park Preservation Society will host the second annual Blue Streak Challenge aboard the Blue Streak roller coaster at historic Conneaut Lake Park, Conneaut Lake, Pennsylvania. The goal of this marathon is to raise funds for the continuing maintenance of this classic coaster. Riders will attempt to endure twelve hours of continuous riding on the Blue Streak, with only a few meal breaks.

The first marathon was held last July, and was the brainstorm of a couple of coaster/park enthusiasts who felt moved to "do something" for this fine traditional amusement park. Registrants came from as far away as Maryland, New Jersey and Michigan. With a whopping 192 rides, they raised close to $3,300.00! The Society would like to see this amount doubled this year, so please check out the web site and come join us!

I'm going to try and enter this one. I rode the 'Streak in September and it was great!

I wish I could go...that coaster looks wild.
I'm going to try to enter it, but it's right after the ACE Europe trip so I may not be up for marathoning (not to mention ANOTHER vacation day)

This is definitely a good cause, though.  The Blue Streak is one of the classics.

This ride was pretty cool and the Ultimate Trip was probably the best scrambler I was ever on.  On the downside, the train ride was broken and the wall of gum in the dark ride was unnerving.  If this place was cleaned up some, it could have better potential.

I would love to enter... i live in edinboro, about 45 minutes away.... rode blue streak about 500 time in my life, and that coasters a classic..... the coaster is in much dissrepair though. My advice for people who are going to do it.... don't ride in the back seat of any car...... rib braker..... middle is semi ok..... but..... i hope to see 6 thousand raised....

I liked the classic style of Blue Streak (those NAD trains...oh yeah!) but wow, my hat's off to the people who can marathon on it! Last year I know they only had 8 participants so axl seats weren't a concern, it'll be interesting to see if there's more attrition with that as part of the equation...
