SeaWorld gets San Diego approval for expansion

Posted | Contributed by Speedy

The San Diego city council gave its final nod of approval to Sea World of California this Tuesday, finally giving the go ahead to begin construction on their expansion that will include a "splash down" ride, new entrance, parking garage, learning center and eventually a 500 room hotel. All but one council member approved of the plans.

With place names like "Vacation Island" and "Fiesta Island", the Mission Bay area was intended to be developed for tourists. Duh...

Where the coasters? Both SeaWorld Orlando and San Antonio both have 2 coasters. Why not Sea World San Diego???

There is allowance to build up to 160 or 180 feet in limited areas. A kranken will be on it's way in very soon I'm sure.
Adambomb, Orlando does not have two coasters, unless you count Atlantis, but San Diego is getting an Atlantis too. Which by the way has the worst theming ever!!!

3)Beast 2)Nitro
1)Magnum

Actually, I like the theming. What are you expecting?

I liked the theming as well. For me, escape from an ancient Greek city long disappeared under the oceans is far more interesting than the Wild Wild West. I think one thing AB, and thus SeaWorld parks in general, have done well is theming. I mean, look at BGW, good god that's a fabulous park!

Did anyone else notice that it said the hotel could not be developed for 9 years? That doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. Does anyone else have a more clear idea on why that is?

This is because our city council are a bunch of environmentalist wackos who get their jollies holding up or stopping developments like this.

Why? Who knows??

I think Jouney to Atlantis is themed greatly, the ride itself, but the queue isn't much but it's not bad either!
