SeaWorld backing out of deal to receive beluga whales captured in Russia

World says it no longer wants any of the captured beluga whales at the center of a legal controversy. The Georgia Aquarium is trying to overturn a federal decision denying its request to import the 18 Russian whales captured several years ago. SeaWorld would have received some of them under a breeding loan.

I was surprised to hear Sea World was part of this deal to begin with. I don't know the history of this story and really can't comment further. But, I wonder who prompted the capturing of these whales to begin with.
