While San Diego residents protested, San Diego's city council approved an expansion plan for Sea World that includes a thrill ride, hotel and parking garage. The park must now gain approval from the California Coastal Commission. The park resides on public land.

It's about time! Sounds like JTA is comin' to San Diego!
Well there is nothing that the residents can do because they don't have the higher power. Sea World should add a coaster to "their" park like SWO did, which "they" added a floorless coaster, Kraken.

Well you might be on the same track as SWO' JTA 2 years later Kraken.
Man they make is sound like SeaWorld is a disease. I know many people here in Ohio would love to have Anheiser-Busch back at the reigns of Sea World.
Keep your fingers crossed...just one more approval.
Finally, a possible reason to want to visit sea world. I have absolutely no interest in going there now, but with a few thrill rides, I wouldn't mind it at all. :)

'Twould be nice to have another coaster 5 minutes away. :)

Yeeee Haaawwww!
Then again, sounds like they want to build a "Perilous Plunge" type ride.
Either way, I hope they get approval.
Folks seem to forget that Mission Bay was created by people for recreational use.
I'm ambivalent though. Not a huge fan of animal shows.

More info on this story. Sounds like locals dont want them there.

Yes we do! Word was that Kraken was supposed to be here, but got bumped for lack of city approval. Finally, it went through!
yea we want them there!
its just that weird ***** with ugly glasses (she was the only one who voted no) that thinks she speaks for everyone
Sea World is awesome.
They're drawing huge crowds here in Florida.
Kraken and JTA rule, and the Key West dolphin area where you can feed them is da bomb.
I'm sure Cali will get the same thing we have here in Florida, because it's working. Just be patient and give them a few years to build the rides.

You have to realize that the San Diego park is in a similar situation to the one that existed in Ohio. It is built on leased land. Land that belongs to the city of San Diego. A lease that is subject to political whim. The one no vote on the city council is from the district in which the park is in. If I were Busch, I'd be looking for a site slightly up the coast(out of the city's limits) that I could buy outright, move the park then remove all the improvements from the existing site. Give it back to the city in the same condition when they first broke ground- saltgrass growing on channel dredgings.
