Science Fair Ideas

Hey everybody. This is my first post on here, and I thought I would say hey! I have a question though. for my 8th grade science project, I would like to have it do with roller coasters, but we need an experiment. I don't know what I could do. Does anyone have any ideas? I am willing to do just about anything with thrill rides. Thanks

I think this topic came up about a year ago. You may want to search.

Some ideas I had: Timing full trains vs. empty trains or trains in the beginning of the day vs. trains at the end of the day to see what effects on speed there are.

How can I do this though without going to the park, unless I did it on roller coaster tycoon, but I dont think it would change then.
Ok in the 8th grade I made a model coaster out of hot wheels track and hot wheels cars. I just got some wood and glued the cars on and had a first hill and then one more. My test was to see, just like andy said, if a heaver car was faster or slower. My problem which could be fixed if i do it again is the 2nd hill was to short and the cars flew off. I got a high A on it and my teacher thought it was nice because of it being original. Just have fun whatever you do cause if it gets to hard and not fun its hard to finish

Hey, welcome to Coasterbuzz! You could talk about acceleration and explain how LIMs work. There is a thread up right now about how to build a LIM, and you could build one and have everybody go "ohhhhhhh" and "ahhhhhhhhh" at how cool it would be, lol.

I got this idea partly from a roller coaster show I saw once. A guy went on Steel Phantom and measured the forces with an accelerometer. That tells you the forces of gravity. In eigth grade, I got an accelerometer and made a device to check negative g forces. Then I went to Carowinds to measure the forces. I incorporated the whole amount of people on train and what time of day idea also. You should call the park and plan it if you live near one that is open right now.
Hey, I'm doing a science project on the relationship between blood pressure and roller coasters which, I was going to do at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay until I found out from public relations that it wouldn't be allowed. This was after I called numerous times and spoke to them about it- they said sure why not, just come on in. It's a pretty crummy situation.

Instead of just trying to think of a roller coaster Science Fair, you should incorparate roller coasters into your fair. My Science Fairs were about centrepital force and heat's effect on electromagnets. I used my K'nex roller coaster to conduct both experiments.

Ditto, where did you get a accelerometer or did you make it yourself?

I had the same question for the accelormeter, lol

I want an original project. Iam thinkin about building a LIM or LSM, and having a small example to bring for my project, but what can i test

make a crappy rollercoaster out of spaghetti noodles, and then in the backround put a picture of a puppy. you can't say no to puppy's.

Crazy-Carl, you're not gonna last long. I'd have to LOL to that last post but seriously man, cut it out.

I think you should have the coaster jump the track or something, saying that it's your new idea. I thought of a whole big idea for a jump-coaster, with a layout, name, logo, and everything! I can email you if you want it.

if anyone has any ideas or dwaings you can email me

I never thought someone would be able to pass the level of stupidity that CedarPointNut had... guess I was wrong.

SFSL_Guy07, I'd go with cdrpointcrazy04's idea as LIMs, because they deal with roller coasters and magnets are very interesting. I should've done that for my science fair. But, whatever you do, don't follow Chris Sawyer's advice.

I like cdrpointcrazy04's idea. But what can I test is the question? Should i build town towers, a clone to Superman at Magic Mountain, and wet one tower, and time then both, and see which one is slower, to see if the wetness of the tower effects speed?

Hey, i am going to look at all of them, have you emailed me yet Chris Sawyer? Once i get it, I will check it, and maybe I can mix the two porjects somehow. we will see
Yes, I just sent it. Good luck with whatever you choose!

Chris Sawyer, who ever said you were respected? And your post, "Crazy-Carl, you're not gonna last long. I'd have to LOL to that last post but seriously man, cut it out." how hypocritical, I just saw a post that was by, I believe you, that was deleted, it had a topic title "Cedar Point" and all you said was "Cedar Point." in the thread. You think you are respected with a post like that? I don't think so.

And when I said I never thought someone could pass CedarPointNut's stupidity, it was mainly directed toward Crazy-Carl, but it works for you too.

That post was sent seconds after the one before it, and it was just a mix of mumble jumble that didn't mean much. I'll even take it out. About being respected, I never said on this board. I'm too new here for the "key" people to like me yet, considering I don't even know who they are. I meant in life. Whatever, SFSL_Guy07, did you like my idea?

Your idea was very well thought out Chris Sawyer. i like how the train goes from track to a ooooo what was the word, um...... lets say a ooo i dont know. but i liked it a lot. it might be kinda hard to construct, but it would make a great model coaster. i will try it someday, and once i do, i will have pictures up! Right now though, Im thinkin of doing the LIM or LSM, no offense to you though Chris Sawyer, i just feel more into LIMs right now. But does anyone have something I can test with them, that is what i am stuck on
