Schlitterbahn to remove Verruckt after fatal accident

Schlitterbahn announced Tuesday that the Verruckt water slide at the Kansas City, Kansas, theme park will be permanently closed and taken down after a death of a young boy last summer. Caleb Schwab, 10, the son of a Kansas state lawmaker, was killed on a trip down the slide in August. Two women who were in the raft with Caleb were injured.

Does anyone even know what exactly happened here? Unless I missed it, I haven't even seen a preliminary report or anything of the sort. You'd think that by now, something would have been released as to what really happened to cause this accident to occur.

Haven't seen any kind of final report but it is no surprise to me that the ride is coming out.

According to the press release it is still being investigated.

Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.

And if Verruckt is to remain SBNO until all litigation is finalized, it could be there quite a while.

But then again, what do I know?

Knowing exactly what happened would be gruesome and difficult, but still very interesting.

Most of us speculated that the boat did not slow down at the crest of the hill, and the bars holding the safety net was what decapitated the boy, who was sitting in the front row. It is also thought that maybe his Velcro shoulder strap may have released.

This hobby sometimes produces some very disturbing images in my head.

Either way, the ride seemed dangerous to me when it was open. I don't think I would have ridden it, given the chance, but I never expected anything like this to happen.
