A grand jury in Wyandotte County on Friday returned an indictment against Schlitterbahn, charging the company and a former operations director with involuntary manslaughter, aggravated battery and reckless endangerment of a child in the 2016 death of 10-year-old Caleb Schwab on the Verruckt water slide.

Originally, I was just trying to be kinda silly by saying that the solution that all of us RCT players used back in the day to prevent raft fly-off might have been better for this ride than what they actually used. Certainly, not having a camel back hill on a water slide is the best way to go. If you're determined to have one, then you had better have a firm grasp of the physics involved. By throwing some rigging on the crest of the hill, it looks like all the "designers" were concerned about was making sure nobody could be ejected from the slide and fall all the way to the ground below. They clearly didn't give enough thought to what would actually happen if someone got caught in the net.
So yes, if I'm designing this slide and I get to the point where I'm trying to come up with a way to shield the top of the camel back to keep riders from flying off, then I'm wadding up my paper and starting over.

1) I got the impression that they "took care" of the speed problem by installing braking devices down the first half of the drop. I saw this in a POV and assumed it was the waterslide equivalent of Trim Brakes. My impression was that it was built only for the title, but the ride itself was throttled back so much that it didn't even look fun. Kinda like how Formula Rossa launches directly into trim brakes. What's the point?

Two words... Action Park.
2) Action Park is getting a movie made about it. It's called Action Point and stars Johnny Knoxville of Jackass fame. Trailer:
Totally unrelated but the water at the bottom of the slide in that video looks DISGUSTING.
But then again, what do I know?
