Scarowinds

Hey guys. I'm gonna be going to Scarowinds on either the 18th or 19th. I'm gonna be down there visiting my cousins and of course we're gonna make a side trip to the park. They live 10 minutes away, lol. I was juts wondering a few things:

Are all of the rides open during the event?
How are the haunted houses? I'm spoiled by HHN, so they better be good, lol.

Any help from someone who's been there before would be appreciated.

I've been there each year that they've had it (two years). The first year the County Fair, Carolina RFD, and Old World Marketplace areas were open, meaning Top Gun and Thunder Road were the coasters open. Last year the Vortex plaza was added on, and Vortex of course was open. This year the Thrill Zone and Carolina Boardwalk areas will be added, meaning Hurler, Drop Zone, Ricochet, and maybe Cyclone will be running as well. The haunted houses were pretty good IMO, but the real thrill was the night rides of course. I recommend going on a Friday night.

This year, the Hurler/Drop Zone/Ricochet area will be open for the first time. The Vortex has ran in the past and the old Paramount Theatre was used for the smoke and mirrors attraction. So, it makes sense to open that area up. From reading the season pass brochure, it looks like Thunder Road might not be open. Its not listed but that's not to say it won't be. We'll find out more when Scarowinds opens.

The Haunted Houses? Eh...they're okay. Don't go expecting anything of Universal or Knotts quality. Admittedly, they were better last year (and the year before that was their first year doing this so I didn't hold it against them) so I'm anxious to see this year's Scarowinds. Maybe the old adage, third times the charm will be true. The haunted house behind the log flume is usually pretty good. Its always been my favourite and usually the one that is the best of the whole lot.
