Santa Monica West Coaster

My wife and I will be heading out to SFMM for a couple days. We are thinking about driving down to Santa Monica to see the ocean (never have) and I saw that Santa Monica has a coaster.

Has anyone tried this out and is it worth the stop? Also, looking at their website it says it is free admission but the tickets are like 17.00 bucks. Does anyone know if they have a pay as you go as we would just like to ride the coaster and then take off.

Thanks again,

I'm pretty sure they have pay as you go, but unfortunately, I only saw Santa Monica Pier from Moosh's house, and didn't end up getting to go (mostly due to SFMM's poor operations, and then getting lost in LA looking for Playa Del Rey).

But I'm pretty sure you can buy tickets, I could be wrong though.

Last time I was there they had a POP wristband you could buy.

Crazyforcoasters - You sure you checked their website? ;) This is the text under the unlimited wristband prices:

Ride Tickets available individually. Rides range from 1-3 tickets. Prices subject to change without notice.

I think its a fun little family coaster. You get two circuits per ride. If you want to see the ocean, ride some rides, and eat some good food [at the nearby 3rd Street Promenade] then its worth a stop.

The ferris wheel at night is breath taking. I was pretty sure that you could get a POP. Oh and not that you mentioned it Moosh, I think that the two circuits on Westcoaster is a neat treat for as short of a ride it is.

Its more forcefull than it looks. Sit in the back row and try to ignore the urge to grab the bar on the first drop [after the first helix]! That's some mighty fine airtime for a coaster of that size ;)
Last time I was at Santa Monica Pier, I noted that the Santa Monica West Coaster was 2 tickets, at a cost of $2 per ticket, for a non-POP single ride price of $4. Unlimited ride bracelets were $19.99.

It's worth it!

The Santa Monica area is beautiful, and the Pier has more than just the West Coaster (which is more powerful than it looks). They do have individual ride tickets, yes.

My friend and I wanted to get the credit and leave but we ended up spending at least 2-3 hours there.

I did and I couldn't find it but I did find it this morning, I was looking under buy tickets (seemed like the obvious place to find it) but noticed it in the general section of their website.

Thanks again everyone, I think my wife and I might have to go give it a spin. *** Edited 9/13/2005 12:12:56 PM UTC by crazyforcoasters***

In addition to the back seat, ride the second or third row as well, you'll get a nice pop of air right at the very end of the ride.

Even thought the park was tiny, I thought it was a lot of fun. If the Chaos is still there give it a whirl.

I recall two very nice moments of airtime. I figured the ride was going to be very tame but I ended up enjoying it quite a bit. Plus the view is pretty nice. Gotta love the Scrambler sitting on it's own little beach on the end of the pier!
