Sandusky Mayhem

Well John (Micheal Darling) and I met in Sandusky today to make our video application for the Discovery Channel. Basically we caused general mayhem and panic and froze to death.

First of all on the way there Jen and I drove across the Bay on 2 to check out the Point from a distance I swear I caught a glimpse of Dragster between Fremont and Port Clinton but who knows. Anyway upon seeing the Point and the frozen Bay I was awestruck.

DRAGSTER IS HUGE!

From the 2 bridge which has to be at least 7 miles from CP Dragster towers over everything. My Maggie is so tiny. Anyway we met up with John at Matt and Chet's Pizza which I would recomend to everyone. Really cool atmosphere and they even have Knott's Berry Farm pennant up on the wall.

From there we went to the mall to cause some destruction filming our vid. Tried out the Pump It Up dance game. What a rip off of DDR, and it is awful. But we got to play for free so it was all good. Then we got yelled at for riding in a coin operated Noah's Ark, I mean come on we have to have some offseason fun.

From there we went to Meijer and looked at dumb stuff and filmed some introductions of ourselves. Too bad we were told we couldn't film in there.

Anyway from there on to Battery Park. Wow just wow. It was about 5 below with the windchill but man what a pretty site. The light was perfect and the coasters were beautifully reflecting off of the glass smooth ice. Took some pictures with my AE-1 and T50 and even got some cool shots of my two loves at teh same time. Cedar Point and Jen.

We got my tripod and proceeded down a ramp onto the ice and to a group of Ice Sleds out on the bay. If you don't know what they are for all intents and purposes they are sailboats with ice sdkates and man so they fly. I'd estimate 60 MPH with the wind today. Very cool to watch.

It was quite surreal to be standing on 2 feet thick ice 200 feet from shore in the middle of Sandusky Bay. I just wanted to walk across the bay to the Point and I am sure I could have as there were people in the very center. But I have better judgement then that.

Anyway it was extremely cool and I figured with the serious lack of TR's lately ya'll might want to see something, anything. Pictures will be forthcoming. Whatever you have saw in pictures, little can express the magnitude of Dragster without seeing it in person. Mean Streak looks like a toy in comparison.

Good luck on the Discovery Chanel video. I never got around to doing mine (I guess there is still time, but it looks bleak)

Good call on walking out on the ice... you never know where a weak spot is.

SCREAM with me... in 2003!

I think the vid will great besids the fact that we are your stereotypical white 20 somethign male 20 somethings so that may work against us. But the ice and elements aspect I think really might have gave us an edge, but ya never know how they do these things. John is a very good editor so it's all good.

We had fun doing it anyway.

If we took an enthusiast from 1989 and brought them to the present to see you (or anyone for that matter) say that, I wonder what the look on their face would be. :)

The deadline was monday the 10th of Febuary. I sent mine in and i am hoping for the best. (taped it infront of my 6 foot tall screaming serpent)
