San Diego says SeaWorld hasn't paid rent from pandemic period

The San Diego City Attorney's office says the deadline has passed for SeaWorld to pay $12.2 million in back rent to the city. SeaWorld has previously claimed that they did not have to make those payments at the beginning of the pandemic because of the mandated theme park closures, but city officials say those payments were deferred, not waived, and now it's time for SeaWorld to pay up.

Well, in all fairness, Conneaut Lake Park still hasn’t paid it’s rent from the Jurassic period.

Last year, they generated $1.7 billion in profits.

I don't think that's accurate. Maybe revenue, definitely not profit.

I'll take "things Sea World and the former president have in common aside from liking to keep things in cages" for $1000 please.

Yes, that's total revenue, not profit for the entire chain. Leave to the local SD station to not get it right. Their net profit isn't anywhere near that, about $291 Million for the entire chain. Can they pay the $12 Mil the city says it owes? Probably but a few people are not going to get a bonus for the next few years......

I wonder if the city has the coastal commission's ears? Might be difficult to get construction approvals if bad blood spills over.

They have been putting up coasters like crazy over the last decade. At least one was clearly visable from the I5. Don't think that there hasn't been much push back from the Coastal Commission. As I recall there is a line on the Sky Tower that marks the maximum allowable height. It's about two thirds of the way up.
