Rye Playland's new coaster

I've been waiting (and waiting and waiting) for Playland to announce their long-delayed new coaster, which was supposed to be a Reverchon Crazy Mouse in 2002 but was rumored to be a Zamperla Zig-Zag this year. I e-mailed the park and asked for information on their new coaster, and all they said was that it opened on Friday.

Now, does anyone know what the heck it is? The website makes no mention of it whatsoever.

It's a full-sized Zamperla mouse [aka Zig Zag Coaster] and it looked to be about 90% ready to roll on my visit on June 12th. It's located on the north end of the park near the clock tower, across from their enclosed scrambler.

Here is a list of Zig Zag coasters in the world.

I've ridden the Doo Whopper and found it to be entertaining, although nothing too special. I was really hoping for that Crazy Mouse, but I'm sure I'll find my way up to Playland, anyway!

Any word on what happened with the Crazy Mouse?

I have no idea...sorry!
The weirdest thing about those is that they only go 11.2 mph! http://www.rcdb.com/quicksearch.htm?quicksearch=Toboggan+Nordique

Ben - having ridden Doo Whopper that's definitely a typo.

Not that I"m complaining about a new coaster- I'm not! I'm just a big fan of Crazy Mice and would love to see more of them. With Playland about an hour away, I had my fingers crossed... for that, and a nice little wooden coaster!

Rob - from what I've heard Playland has been contemplating an Aeorplane rebuild but it's going to be tough to do.

FYI, Sally's renovation of the Old Mill and two dark rides is awesome!

I checked out the remodelled Old Mill last summer... what a fantastic job Sally did... it was beautiful! Sad that no one was riding it... all the work that was done and everyone was passing it on by, but it was late on a Saturday night by then. Didn't check out the two dark rides but I will next time around.

I heard about the Aeroplane rebuild as well, which I REALLY hope will happen (it kills me that there is a beautiful traditional park an hour away from my house, but it lacks the one thing I would go back for- a kick-ass wooden coaster). I don't doubt the park's intentions, I just doubt they have space for it, unless they build into the current parking lot, which seems smallish for the park as it is. Have they indicated a time frame during which they wissh to do this, or are they purely speculating at this point in time?

They have an Old Mill there? I have no idea how I missed it last year. Where in the park is it?

The Old Mill is located almost entirely under the structure of the park's Dragon Coaster. The entrance can be found just past the entrance to the Dragon Coaster, near where the Power Surge and Windstorm coaster are.

This might seem pedantic but actually, Maddie, the entrance to the Old Mill is closer to the "middle entrance" of the park that leads right to the games midway. Or, to put it another way, the games midway separates the Dragon Coaster from the Windstorm and Power Surge...and the Old Mill entrance is on that short midway, next to the restrooms.

mOOSH -wondering if he's just confused everyone?

I think you've confused me and I know where it is! :)

I was at a loss of words as to what to call that midway, as I only remember the entrance to the old mill one side with the entrance to the dragon coaster on that corner. the power surge was kinda opposite the dragon coaster entrance, with the windstorm coaster behind that.

Now that you've jogged my memory, I remember the games on the midway in front of the Windstorm coaster, though.

So, umm, for anyone who's lost, just walk around the Dragon coaster. You'll find the Old Mill eventually. :)

Or better yet, stand at the entrance to the Dragon Coaster queue and then walk towards the smell of baking cookies. The Old Mill will be on your right.

A random Mooshter's Dawntionary listing: Abdicate [n.] - to give up all hope of a flat stomach.

I rode the new one at La Ronde and found it to be the best mouse I've ever been on. I also rode Doo Wopper, but don't remember it being any more than average. La Ronde's runs through the entire course with no brakes(at least the day I was there). It makes for a great ride at every turn.
