Rye Playland/ Astroland ?s

On August 16, I play to hit Rye Playland for their ACE event, and then head to Astroland in the same day. I've never been to both parks, but I've always wanted to.

My questions regard the people that have been to the parks. Besides the major coasters (Dragon Coaster, Crazy Mouse, Hurricane, and Cyclone), are there any other rides worth riding? I don't know much about the parks and I want to ride everything worth riding. How much time should I save for Cyclone riding? It's one of the most famous coasters of all time, and I want to make sure I get enough of it. Also, is there anything else I should know about both parks, like lines, layout, other park stuff, etc?

Thanks

You wont have to worry about lines. All the rides are on a pay-per-ride ticket system so lines are never a problem. (playland is sometimes busy during the holidays) At playland be sure to hit the whip and the old mile, but aside from that its pretty standard carnival type flats. the Hurrican is a really rough coaster if you are on the shorter side.

The cyclone is cool, there is never a wait for that. There is nothing else worth hitting in astroland, it is basicly an over-sized carnival, and quite honestly most of the rides dont look safe.

There's a ton of stuff to do at Rye Playland. Don't miss the best bumper cars in the world, derby racer, and the dark rides. They also have a Gravitron (but they don't let you turn upside down) and a Power Surge that looked fun. And there's a neat historical museum on the boardwalk. Bring lots of money...tickets only...I went through about $30 worth of tickets in about 3 hours...but it's absolutely worth the price. Have fun!

Edit: how could I forget the WHIP??? Make sure you don't forget! :)

And the Old Mill...you forgot that one, too, Dawnster ;)

I can't classify it as a dark ride?
Did Rye's Old Mill get the cat box treatment like Kennywood's is going to get?

Good bumper cars....sigh. I went to Knott's on Monday and the only bad part of my day was the bumper car experience. The were sooo slooooooooowwwwwwww....

Not to mention that they replaced the art deco cars with new Italian ones painted drab yellow and red with only two schemes.

How far away from Coney Island is the Wonder Wheel? How much does it cost, and it it worth the ride? Also, what's the neighborhood/crowd at Coney like? I'm sure it's fine for the most part, but frankly it looks like a rough part of town.

Watch out for the Baseball Furies!

Gen Pub - the Wonder Wheel is inside Deno's Wonder Wheel Park, right next to Astroland. Coney Island is not one park. From north-to-south it's Astoland, Deno's, and a slew of individually-owned consessionaires. The Wonder Wheel is awesome, just make sure you get a swinging car. I believe it's around $3 to ride.

The neighborhood is fine.

LOL jan.

Are the swinging cars really scary, or simply "breathtaking?"

Does anyone have a link to the ACE event at Rye? I can't seem to find it... At Rye be sure to get an ocean facing seat on Double Shot. The view is great.

Edit: I found it. I haven't been on ACE's website in a while.

That's not the ocean, it's the Long Island Sound.

May the Schwarz be with you.

All this Coney talk makes me even more excited about going there Tuesday! Finally, I get to challenge the "original". Which reminds me.......I'm supposed to leave in an hour. I should probably stop posting and start driving! LOL
